Great Portwood Street - Road Closure to Undertake Trial Trenches to Investigate Bridge Waterproofing

What is happening?

THE METROPOLITAN BOROUGH COUNCIL OF
STOCKPORT (GREAT PORTWOOD STREET)
(TEMPORARY ONE WAY TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Metropolitan Borough
Council of Stockport proposes to make an Order not less than
7 days from the date of this Notice under Section 14(1) of the
Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended by the Road Traffic
(Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991, the effect of which will be to
introduce Temporary One Way Traffic at Great Portwood Street,
eastbound closure from the junction of Knightsbridge and to the
entrance of the Peel Centre. Great Portwood Street, westbound
closure from the entrance to the Peel Centre to the junction of
Cooperation Street whilst traffic signs to that effect are in place on
or near the said road. This Order is necessary to undertake Trial
trenches to investigate bridge waterproofing. It is anticipated that
the maximum duration of the works will be 2 weeks. An alternative
route will be provided via :- Phase 1 Knightsbridge, Lancashire
Hill, Tiviot Way, Portwood Roundabout, Great Portwood Street.
Phase 2 Great Portwood Street, Portwood Roundabout, Tiviot
Way, Lancashire Hill, Knightsbridge. This Order is to come into
operation on the 11 March 2024 and will have effect for eighteen
months, provided that if all necessary works are completed within
a shorter period this Order shall cease to have effect at the end of
