What is happening?

SLOUGH BOROUGH COUNCIL
A4 Slough (30mph (Restricted Roads) and 50mph Speed Limit) Order 2023 (Order 35 of 2023) (Proposed Order)
Sections 81(1), 82(1) and (2) and 84(1) and (2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and Regulation 7 of the Local Authorities Traffic Orders (Procedure) (England and Wales) Regulations 1996
1. SLOUGH BOROUGH COUNCIL gives notice that it proposes to make an Order in exercise of its powers under sections 81(1), 82(1) and (2), 84(1) and (2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and any other enabling powers. If the Order comes into force, the following will apply:
a) The length of road specified in Schedule 1 to this notice shall be a restricted road for the purposes of Section 81 of the Act of 1984, where no person shall drive any motor vehicle at a speed exceeding 30 miles per hour; and
b) No person shall drive any motor vehicle at a speed exceeding 50 miles per hour on any road or length of road specified in Schedule 2 to this notice.
2. The Order shall come into force on the date of which the notice that has been made, is first published.
3. This Order revokes any previous Orders imposing a speed limit on the lengths of road referred to in the Schedules to this Order in so far as they relate to the lengths of road referred to in Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 / paragraph 1 to this Order.
4. Special forces drivers using vehicles in response to a national security emergency or whilst being trained or practicing to do so, and any vehicle being used for emergency services purposes, are exempted from the speed limits imposed by this Order.
5. A copy of this notice, the Order, a plan showing the parts of the highway affected and a statement of the Council’s reasons for making the Order may be inspected free of charge on the Council’s website at

6. Any objections and representations relating to the proposed Order must be made online, by email or in writing by 9th February 2024 and should be sent quoting reference A4 Slough (30mph (Restricted Roads) and 50mph Speed Limit) Order 2023 by letter to the address below, emailed to

Road Start and End Points
A4 (Bath Road, High Street, 
Wellington Street, Sussex Place, 
London Road, Colnbrook By-Pass) 
From the Slough western borough boundary on the A4 Bath Road, approximately 40 metres west of its junction with 
Huntercombe Lane North / Huntercombe Lane South to a 
point on the A4 Colnbrook By-Pass approximately 250 metres 
east of the junction of the A4 London Road and Sutton Lane
Sutton Lane From its junction with the A4 London Road to a point
57 metres north of its junction with the centre line of Trent Road
London Road From its junction with the southeast arm of the A4/London 
Road/Colnbrook Bypass junction to a point 7 metres east of 
the west building line of No. 602 London Road

Introduction of 50mph Speed Limit

Road Start and End Points
A4 (Colnbrook By-Pass) From a point on the A4 Colnbrook By-Pass approximately 250 
metres east of the junction of the A4 London Road and Sutton 
Lane to a point on the A4 Colnbrook By-Pass approximately 
225 metres east of its junction with the western entrance of 
Lakeside Road


Statement of Reasons
The A4 Slough (30mph (Restricted Roads) and 50mph Speed Limit) Order 35 of 2023 has been proposed in order:
• To bring existing speed limits in line with current standards and guidance.
• To avoid danger to persons or other traffic using the roads specified in the Schedules to this notice 
or to prevent the likelihood of any such danger arising.
