The M1 Motorway (Junction 29A to Junction 32) - Temporary Traffic Order

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 -SECTION 14

THE M1 MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 29A TO JUNCTION 32) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited has made an Order on the M1 Motorway, in the Counties of South Yorkshire and Derbyshire, to enable Emergency Refuge Area construction, associated technology and advancing signing infrastructure works to be carried out in safety.

The works are expected to start on Monday  8 January 2024 for 15 months, or until completed.

The effect of the Order will be, for 24 hours a day, at times during the works, to:

(i)    impose a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the M1 northbound carriageway from 2000 metres south of the exit slip road at Junction 30 and 500 metres north of the exit slip road at Junction 31, a distance of 11420 metres;

(ii)   impose a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the M1 southbound carriageway from 2000 metres north of the exit slip road at Junction 31 to 200 metres south of the entry slip road at Junction 30, a distance of 11820 metres;

(iii)   ban vehicles with an overall width exceeding 9’6” and 6’6” in specified lanes of the M1 as described in (i) and (ii); and

(iv)  close the emergency refuge area adjacent to the M1 as described in (i) and (ii).

It will necessary to close between 8pm and 6am, at times during the works the:

(v)   M1 northbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 29a to the entry slip road at Junction 31, a distance of 15300 metres;

(vi)  M1 southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 32 to the entry slip road at Junction 30, a distance of 11100 metres;

(vii)  northbound entry slip road at Junction 29a;

(viii) northbound and southbound entry and exit slip roads at Junction 30;

(ix)  northbound and southbound exit and entry slip roads at Woodall Services;

(x)   northbound and southbound exit and entry slip roads at Junction 31; and

(xi)  link road connecting the M18 Motorway southbound carriageway with the M1 southbound carriageway at Thurcroft  (M1 Junction 32).

Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). The Order comes into force on 7 January 2024 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
