The M621 Motorway (Gildersome to Junction 4) - Temporary Traffic Prohibition

What is happening?

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14

THE M621 MOTORWAY  (GILDERSOME TO JUNCTION 4) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the M621 Motorway, in the District of Leeds, to enable parapet replacement works to be carried out in safety.

The works are expected to start at 8pm on Monday 29 January 2024 for 13 weeks, or until completed.

The effect of the Order will be, to impose,  for 24 hours a day, at times during the works,  a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the M621 ;

(i)    clockwise carriageway from 2800 metres west of the exit slip road at Junction 1 (Gildersome) to 300 metres east of the exit slip road at Junction 1, a distance of  3100 metres;

(ii)   anti-clockwise carriageway from the entry slip road at Junction 1 to 2200 metres west of the entry slip road at Junction 1, a distance of 2200 metres; and

(iii)   clockwise exit and anti-clockwise entry slip roads at Junction 1.

It will be necessary, for 24 hours a day, at times during the works, to ban vehicles with an overall width exceeding 6’6” in specified lanes of the M621;

(i)    clockwise carriageway from 2100 metres west of the exit slip road at Junction 1 to 300 metres east of the exit slip road at Junction 1, a distance of 2400 metres; and

(ii)   anti-clockwise carriageway from 300 metres east of the entry slip road at Junction 1 to 2100 metres west of the entry slip road at Junction 1, a distance of 2400 metres.

It will be necessary to close at times during the works, between 8pm and 6am the;

(i)    M621 clockwise carriageway from its diverge with the M62 eastbound carriageway at Gildersome (M62 Junction 27) to the entry slip road at Junction 1,  a distance of 5720 metres;

(ii)   M621 anti-clockwise carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 4 to its merge with the M62 westbound carriageway at Gildersome, a distance of 9550 metres;

(iii)   link road connecting the M62 eastbound carriageway with the M621 clockwise carriageway at Gildersome;

(iv)  M621 clockwise entry slip road at Gildersome;

(v)   M621 clockwise exit slip road at Junction 1;

(vi)  link road connecting the M621 anticlockwise carriageway with the M62 westbound carriageway at Gildersome;

(vii)  M621 anti-clockwise exit slip road at Gildersome; and

(viii) M621 anti-clockwise entry slip road at Junction 1.

During the closures suitably signed alternative routes will be available.

Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). The Order comes into force on 28 January 2024 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
