ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 -SECTIONS 14(1)(a), 14(7) AND PARAGRAPH 27(1) OF SCHEDULE 9 THE M5 AND M50 MOTORWAYS
(STRENSHAM, WORCESTERSHIRE) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2023
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 9346363) has made an Order on the M5 and M50 Motorways, in the County of Worcestershire, to enable carriageway repair, safety camera installation and maintenance works to be carried out.
The effect of the Order will be to -
(1) impose a 40 miles per hour speed restriction on -
(a) the exit slip road leading from the southbound carriageway of the M5 to its roundabout junction with the M50 (Strensham Interchange);
(b) the slip road leading from Strensham Motorway Services Area southbound to Strensham Interchange; and
(c) the circulatory carriageway of Strensham Interchange;
(2) impose a 50 miles per hour speed restriction on -
(a) the southbound carriageway of the M5 from the tip of the nosing at its junction with the exit slip road leading to Strensham Motorway Services Area, to a point 412 metres north of the tip of the nosing at its junction with the entry slip road at Junction 8;
(b) the eastbound carriageway of the M50 from a point 760 metres west of the centreline of Twyning Road overbridge to its junction with Strensham Interchange;
(c) a length of the M5 Junction 8 northbound exit slip road from a point 127 metres north of the tip of the nosing at its junction with the M5, to its junction with Strensham Interchange; and
(d) the slip road leading from the southbound carriageway of the M5 to Strensham Motorway Service Area;
(3) close lanes of the slip roads described in (1)(a) and (b) above and allow traffic to run on the hard shoulder;
(4) prohibit any vehicle with a width exceeding 2 metres from entering or proceeding in the outside lane of the southbound carriageway of the M5 from a point 50 metres north of the tip of the nosing of the exit slip road at junction 8, to a point 412 metres north of the tip of the nosing at its junction with the entry slip road at Junction 8; and
(5) close the carriageway through the centre of Strensham Interchange.
The works are expected to start on Monday 8 January 2024 and continue for approximately eight months. The speed limits, hard shoulder running, width restriction and closures will be in place for 24 hours a day for the duration of the work. The Order will come into force on 5 January 2024.
Vehicles being used for police, fire and rescue authority or ambulance purposes will be exempt from the speed restrictions, prohibition and closures. Vehicles being used for special forces purposes will be exempt from the speed restrictions, and vehicles being used for traffic officer purposes, in connection with the works or for winter maintenance purposes will be exempt from the prohibition and closures.
