Queen Victoria Road Area - Road Closure to Allow Works to Be Carried Out on or Near the Highway
What is happening?

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION
ORDER 2024
1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on
4th January 2024 the Council of the City of
Newcastle upon Tyne made an Order under
Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation
Act 1984, the effect of which is to -
(a) prohibit all vehicles from proceeding on -
(i) Leazes Lane - between Terrace Place
and Richardson Road,
(ii) Leazes Crescent - between Leazes
Park Road and Leazes Lane/
Richardson Road/St Thomas Terrace,
(iii) Richardson Road - from Leazes Lane/
St Thomas Terrace for approx. 100 metres
or to the exit of the new RVI MSCP,
(iv) St Thomas Terrace (Queen Victoria
Road) - its whole length,
(v) St Thomas Street - between Queen
Victoria Road/St Thomas Terrace and
Kings Road/St Thomas Square, and
(vi) Queen Victoria Road - its whole length.
(b) prohibit any vehicle from travelling in a
direction other than northerly on -
(i) St Thomas Terrace - between Queen
Victoria Road and Richardson Road, and
(ii) Queen Victoria Road - between
St Thomas Street and Claremont Road.
2. The alternative route for vehicles will be via
Claremont Road, Hunters Road, Sheraton
Street, Richardson Road and Barrack Road.
3. The Order is required to allow works to be
carried out on or near the highway.
4. Exemptions will be provided for vehicles
engaged in the works and, where possible,
for police, fire brigade and ambulance
vehicles on emergency call.
5. The Order will come into operation on
8th January 2024 and will continue, as and
when the relevant traffic signs are displayed,
for 15 months or until the proposed works
are completed, whichever is the earlier.
