Bath Lane Area - Road Closure to Allow Works to Be Carried Out on or Near the Highway

What is happening?

CITY OF NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE
(BATH LANE AREA) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC
REGULATION ORDER 2023
1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on
27 December 2023 the Council of the City of
Newcastle upon Tyne made an Order under
Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation
Act 1984, the effect of which will be to -
(a) prohibit all traffic (vehicles, pedestrians
and other traffic) from proceeding on-
(i) Rutherford Street for its entire length,
and
(ii) Bath Lane between Stowell Street and
St James’ Boulevard.
(b) prohibit all vehicles from
loading/unloading at any time on the
entire length of Stowell Street.
2. For the duration of the Order, the following
existing restrictions will be suspended -
(i) the one-way southwards restriction on
Stowell Street between St Andrews Street
and Friars Street, and
(ii) the Prohibition of Entry of motor vehicles
restriction from Friars Street into
Stowell Street.
3. Appropriate traffic management will be in
place during the closures.
4. The Order is required to allow works to be
carried out on or near the highway.
5. Exemptions will be provided for vehicles
and persons engaged in the works and
where possible, for police, fire brigade
and ambulance vehicles and personnel on
emergency call.
6. The Order will come into operation on
8 January 2024 and will continue, as and
when the relevant traffic signs are displayed,
for 18 weeks or until the proposed works are
completed, whichever is the earlier.
