Framwellgate Peth, Temporary Closure & Restrictions Carriageway Works
What is happening?
The County Council of Durham (A691 Framwellgate Peth, Durham) (Phased Temporary Road Closure and Prohibition of Right Turn) Order 2024
The Council proposes to make an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, Section 14(1) to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following roads: Temporary Road Closures 1.a 511 metre length of the A691 Framwellgate Peth between its junctions with the A690 Millburngate Roundabout and the access road to the former DLI Museum and Durham Rail Station Car Park, Durham 2.The central reserve crossovers on the A691 both sides of the northbound carriageway opposite St Cuthberts Church (during phases 1, 3 and 4 in association with the southbound carriageway closures). Temporary Prohibition of Right Turn It will also be necessary to prohibit vehicular traffic From turning right from Millburngate onto the A690 eastbound carriageway to enable carriageway reconstruction works to be undertaken. An alternative route will be available to vehicular traffic from the 1. northern side of the closure from A691 / B6532 County Hall Roundabout north westerly on A691 to A167 Sniperley Roundabout, then southerly to A690 Nevilles Cross traffic signals, then generally easterly on A690 to the southern side of the closure, and vice versa 2. For non-HGV traffic only - Southern side of the closure from A690 westerly to North Road Roundabout, then northerly on North Road to A691 to the northern side of the closure. The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed phased works are to commence from 8pm on 14/1/24 and are anticipated to be completed in 4 weeks. Phase/Week 1 A691 southbound carriageway will be closed between 8pm and 6am Phase/ Week 2 A691 northbound carriageway will be closed between 8pm and 6am Phase/Week 3 Northbound will be closed for 2 nights followed by southbound for 2 nights between 8pm and 6am Phase/Week 4 Southbound carriageway will be closed for up 5 nights between 11 pm and 6am and the Millburngate to A690 no right turn implemented during this phase. On occasions, alternative dates for closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
