Highways
Kent County Council, acting in exercise of its powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, makes or intends to make the following Orders.
CANTERBURY AREA
A2990 THANET WAY, WHITSTABLE. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JANUARY 2024
To allow Section 50 drainage works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on parts of A2990 Thanet Way, Whitstable, on or after 15th January 2024, with estimated completion by 27th January 2024, or until the works have been completed.
The works will be carried out in phases, as detailed below:-
Phase 1
A2990 Thanet Way will be closed at the southern quadrant of the Borstal Hill roundabout, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
Phase 2
A2990 Thanet Way Whitstable will be closed westbound only between Benacre off slip and Clapham Hill, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic:-
Phase 1 is via Clapham Hill and vice versa.
Phase 2 is via A299 Thanet Way, A291 Canterbury Road, A299 Thanet Way and A290 Clapham Hill.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
CANTERBURY 10 MILE RACE 2024. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING & WAITING) TEMPORARY ORDER JANUARY 2024
To allow the Canterbury 10 mile road race to be held, Kent County Council intends to make an Order to temporarily prohibit through traffic on parts of various roads in Canterbury, from 07.30 hours on 21st January 2024, with estimated completion by 12.00 hours on 21st January 2024.
Spring Lane, Canterbury will be closed between the junctions with A257 St Martin’s Hill and Pilgrims Road between the hours of 07:30 and 12:00.
The alternative route is via A257 St Martin’s Hill, Longport, Lower Chantry Lane, New Dover Road, St Augustines Road, Pilgrims Way and Pilgrims Road.
The Paddock and Pilgrims Way will be closed at their junction with Spring Lane for the same times, with access to each of them remaining from the Longport direction.
Pilgrims Road will be closed for its entire length between the hours of 09:00 and 09:10.
There is no alternative route signed for the Pilgrims Road closure.
Bifrons Hill, Patrixbourne will be closed from the junction with Pilgrims Way Bridleway and A2 Slip Road, between the hours of 09:10 and 09:50.
Coldharbour Lane and Poor Start Lane will be closed from Highland Court Industrial Estate to Shepherd’s Close Road, between the hours of 09:20 and 10:30.
There are no alternative routes signed for the Bifrons Hill, Coldharbour Lane and Poor Start Lane closures.
All roads will be re-opened as soon as it is safe to do so and marshals will be on site.
Access for emergency service vehicles and pedestrians will be maintained at all times during the closures.
Waiting and loading will be prohibited at all times on Spring Lane, Canterbury between the junctions with Longport and Pilgrims Road, on both sides where there are no existing double yellow lines.
No waiting restrictions apply from Saturday 20th January 2024 at 17:00 through until Sunday 21st January 2024 at 12:00, when clearly indicated by no waiting signs and cones placed on site.
CASTLE ROW, CANTERBURY. CT1 2PX (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JANUARY 2024
To allow installation works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Castle Row, Canterbury, on or after 3rd January 2024, for up to one day, between the hours of 09.30 and 15.30, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed from the junction with Pin Hill, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic:-
Southbound is via Castle Row, Castle Street and A28 Pin Hill.
Northbound is via A28 Pin Hill, Rhodaus Town, Riding Gate Roundabout, Rhodaus Town, Pin Hill, Wincheap Green and Castle Street.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
CHARTHAM DOWNS ROAD, CHARTHAM. CT4 7PT (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER DECEMBER 2023
To allow pole replacement works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Chartham Downs Road, Chartham, on or after 28th December 2023, for up to one day, between the hours of 08.30 and 16.30, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed from the junction with Cockering Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route is via Chartham Downs Road, Street End, Faussett Hill, Nackington Road, Old Dover Road, Riding Gate Roundabout, A28 Rhodaus Town, Pin Hill, Wincheap Green, Wincheap, Thanington Road, Ashford Road, Milton Manor Road, Cockering Road and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
GREENHILL ROAD, HERNE BAY, CT6 7PW (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JANUARY 2024
To allow replacement works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Greenhill Road, Herne Bay, from 22.30 hours on 16th January 2024, with estimated completion by 06.00 hours on 17th January 2024, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed in the vicinity of number 1, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route is via Greenhill Road, Thornden Wood Road, Owls Hatch Road, Bullockstone Road and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
HATCH LANE, CHARTHAM, CT4 7LW (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JANUARY 2024
To allow rail inspection works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Hatch Lane, Chartham, from 23.30 hours on 17th January 2024, with estimated completion by 05.00 hours on 18th January 2024, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed in the vicinity of the level crossing, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for vehicles under 3.6m (12’ 0”) is via Hatch Lane, A28 Ashford Road, Howfield Lane, Town Lane and vice versa.
The alternative route for vehicles over 3.6m (12’ 0”):-
Northbound is via Hatch Lane, A28 Ashford Road, Thanington Road, Wincheap, A290 Rheims Way, St Peters Roundabout, A2050 Rheims Way, Harbledown Bypass, A2 Dover Road, Denstead Lane, Gravel Hill, Town Lane and Hatch Lane.
Southbound is via Hatch Lane, Town Lane, Gravel Hill, Denstead Lane, A2 Boughton Bypass, Dunkirk Slip Westbound Off, Canterbury Road, A2 Boughton Bypass, Dover Road, Harbledown Slip Eastbound Off, A2050 Harbledown Bypass, Rheims Way, St Peters Roundabout, A290 Rheims Way, A28 Wincheap, Thanington Road, Ashford Road and Hatch Lane.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
HEATON ROAD, CANTERBURY, CT1 3PS (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JANUARY 2024
To allow cabling works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Heaton Road, Canterbury, on or after 15th January 2024, for up to 5 days, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed in the vicinity of number 63, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
There is no alternative route for this closure, however, residential access will be maintained at all times when it is safe to do so.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
MARGATE ROAD, HERNE, CT6 7XR (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JANUARY 2024
To allow maintenance works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Margate Road, Herne, on or after, 19th January 2024, for up to one day, between the hours of 08.00 and 18.00, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed from the A299 Thanet Way off-slip to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
There will also be a lane closure on A299 Thanet Way off-slip for the safety of the public and workforce
The alternative route for any through traffic:-
South Bound is via A299 Thanet Way, Mill Lane, Hunters Forstal Road and Margate Road.
North Bound is via Margate Road, Hunters Forstal Road and Mill Lane.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
MOLEHILL ROAD, CHESTFIELD. (TEMPORARY 40 MPH SPEED RESTRICTION) TEMPORARY ORDER JANUARY 2024
To allow excavation works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order to impose a temporary mandatory 40 mph speed restriction on part of Molehill Road, Chestfield on or after 16th January 2024, for up to 4 days, or until the works have been completed.
The temporary mandatory 40 mph speed restriction on Molehill Road, Chestfield will be imposed from Birkdale Close, for approximately 500 metres north east, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
OLD DOVER ROAD, CANTERBURY. CT1 3JB (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JANUARY 2024
To allow manhole replacement works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Old Dover Road, Canterbury, from 22.30 hours on 4th January 2024, with estimated completion by 06.00 hours on 5th January 2024, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed in the vicinity of number 41, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic:-
Southeast bound is via Oaten Hill, Upper Chantry Lane and A2050 New Dover Road.
Northwest bound is via New Dover Road, St George’s Place and Upper Bridge Street.
Southeast bound is via (exiting Oaten Hill due to No Right Turn) Nunnery Fields, South Canterbury Road and Ethelbert Road.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
SEATON ROAD, WICKHAMBREAUX, CT3 1RW (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JANUARY 2024
To allow new connection works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Seaton Road, Wickhambreaux, on or after 15th January 2024, for up to 5 days, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed approximately 135 metres from the junction with The Street, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route is via Seaton Road, Baye Lane, Wingham Lane, The Street, Wickham Lane, Wickham Road, The Street, Seaton Road and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
