What is happening?

CITY OF NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE
(QUAYSIDE AREA - LASER LIGHT CITY
EVENT 2023) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC
REGULATION ORDER 2023
1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council
of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne intend,
not less than seven days from the date of this
Notice, to make an Order under Section 16A
of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, and
has received consent from the Secretary of
State for Transport to make such an Order.
2. The effect of the Order will be to prohibit all
vehicles from proceeding on Cycle Route 72
between the Wesley Square entrance/junction
to Plot 12 Roundabout.
3. The alternative route will be signed on site
as required.
4. The Order is required to facilitate the holding
of the Laser Light City Event 2023 (“the
Event”) and to reduce the disruption to traffic
likely to be caused by the Event. The Order is
required to allow the Event to be carried out
safely on or near the highway and to ensure
the health and safety of the general public.
5. Exemptions will be provided for vehicles
involved with the Event and for police,
fire brigade and ambulance vehicles on
emergency call.
6. The Order will be in operation from
1600 hours on 31st December 2023 to
0400 hours on 1st January 2024 as and
when the relevant traffic signs are displayed.
