A31 TRUNK ROAD - ASHLEY HEATH TO AMEYSFORD TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A31 Trunk Road in the County of Dorset, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.

The effect of the Order would be to authorise the overnight, 24-hour, and weekend closure, as required, of: -

i) phased sections of both carriageways of the A31 between Ashley Heath Roundabout (A338) and Ameysford Roundabout (Cobham Road);

ii) all of the slip roads leading to and from the carriageways described in i) above when the relevant section is closed;

iii) all of the side roads at junction with the carriageways described in i) above when the relevant section is closed;

iv) any bus stop adjacent to the carriageways and slip roads described in i) and ii) above;

v) any lay-by adjacent to the carriageways described in i) above; and

vi) phased sections of any footway adjacent to the carriageways described in i) above when the relevant section is closed.

These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake carriageway works (resurfacing, road-marking, and stud replacement), drainage works, and other associated sundry works. It is expected that the work would last for approximately 4 months starting on or after Friday 12th January 2024. Overnight closures would take place between 21:00 and 06:00 (maximum period). Extended closures on Saturday nights would extend to between 19:00 and 08:30. Total weekend closures would start at 21:00 on Fridays and end at 06:00 Monday mornings. Please consult National Highways website for details. The Order would come into force on 6th January 2024 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete. Through traffic affected by the closures would be diverted using, as appropriate, the A338, A347, B3072, B3073, Cobham Road, Wimborne Road East, Woolsbridge Road, Horton Road, Ringwood Road, Hurn Road, and Boundary Lane. The diversion in operation would vary according to the closure in force. Vehicular and pedestrian access for residents and businesses whose sole access is from, or fronting, the A31 and connecting roads would be maintained by escort as required. The temporary closures and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
