What is happening?

Temporary Closure 0f Various Roads,
Gillingham
DORSET COUNCIL intend, not less than seven days from the
date of this notice to make an Order under Section 14 [1] of the
Road Traffi c Regulations Act 1984, as amended. All vehicles will
be prohibited from proceeding along Various Roads, Gillingham
as listed: [i] Common Mead Lane between access to Sewage
Disposal Works and Kine Bush Lane; [ii] Common Mead Lane
between Kine Bush Lane and Nations Road; [iii] Unnamed Road,
Eccliffe between Nations Road and Bleet Lane; [iv] Dunns Lane,
Madjeston in its entirety [v] Unnamed Road, Madjeston between
Bleet Lane and Sandpits Lane; [vi] Unnamed Road, Madjeston
between Sandpits Lane and B3092 New Road; [vii] Cole Street
Lane at its junction with B3092 New Road. The order is needed
in order to comply with health and safety regulations, which
require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the
likelihood of danger to highway users. It will come into operation
on 15th January 2024 and will remain in force for 18 months,
however it is anticipated that the works will be completed by
31st May 2024. Only one closure listed above will be in place at
any one time and residents access will be maintained at all
times.
This Order will enable The Electricity Network Company
Limited, safe access to install a new high voltage cable from
Common Mead Lane to Principal Street.
A locally signed diversion route will be put in place to enable
traffic to travel around the closed sections.

On 6 November 2023 an Inspector appointed by the Secretary
of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs confi rmed
(without modification) the above-named order as unopposed.
The effect of the order as confirmed will modify the defi nitive
map and statement for the area by:
Deleting from them part of Footpath 48, Thorncombe - From
the unaffected part of Footpath 48, south of Yawling’s Farm at
ST 34920215, a grassed surface, generally south west across
fields, then south south west across a pond and through
outbuildings to its junction with Bridleway 52 at ST 34560183.
(No recorded width).
Adding to them part of Footpath 48, Thorncombe - From the
unaffected part of Footpath 48, south of Yawling’s Farm at
ST 34920215, a grassed surface, south for a distance of 28
metres to the next field boundary at ST 34920212 then south
west across the field to a stream at ST 34690189, across the
stream and continue south west up a bank and through a small
area of trees to ST 34880189. Continue south west across the
field to the north western field boundary, east north east of New
House Farm at ST 34630183, then south west and west through
a garden passing to the north of New House Farm to its junction
with Bridleway 52 at ST 34550181. Width: 1.5 metres.

placed and may be seen free of charge at Reception, County
Hall, Colliton Park, Dorchester during normal offi ce hours.

The order came into effect on 6 November 2023. If any person
aggrieved by the Order desires to question its validity or that of
any provision contained in it on the grounds that it is not within
the powers of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, or on the
grounds that any requirement of the Act or of any regulation
made under it has not been complied with in relation to the
confi rmation of the Order, you may within six weeks from 14
December 2023, make an application to the High Court.

Temporary Closure of Castle Avenue,
Okeford Fitzpaine
DORSET COUNCIL has made an Order under Section 14 [1]
of the Road Traffi c Regulations Act 1984, as amended. All
vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along Castle
Avenue, Okeford Fitzpaine from the junction with Lower Street
to a point approximately 10 metres to the north (in both
directions). The order is needed in order to comply with health
and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe
working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to
highway users. It will come into operation on 2nd January 2024
and will remain in force for 18 months, however it is anticipated
that the works will be completed by 5th February 2024
This Order will enable SGN safe access to replace a Gas
Pressure Governor
An alternative vehicular route will be signed using Castle
Avenue, Mary Gardens, Lower Street and vice versa.

Temporary Closure of South Avenue,
Sherborne
DORSET COUNCIL intend, not less than seven days from the
date of this notice to make an Order under Section 14
[1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. All
vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along South Avenue,
Sherborne between Lenthay Road to outside 11 South Avenue
(in both directions), a distance of approximately 90 metres.. The
order is needed in order to comply with health and safety
regulations, which require the provision of safe working areas
and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users. It will
come into operation on 2nd January 2024 and will remain in
force for 18 months, however it is anticipated that the works will
be completed by 2nd February 2024
This Order will enable SGN safe access to undertake gas mains
decomission and replacement
An alternative vehicular route will be signed using Lenthay Road,
Westbridge Park, Littlefield, South Avenue and vice versa.

DORSET COUNCIL intend, not less than seven days from the
date of this notice to make an Order under Section 14
[1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. All
vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along COOMBE,
SHERBORNE between B3148 Marston Road and Nethercoombe
Lane (in both directions), a distance of approximately 600
metres. The order is needed in order to comply with health and
safety regulations, which require the provision of safe working
areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users.
It will come into operation on 2nd January 2024 and will remain
in force for 18 months, however it is anticipated that the works
will be completed by 11th January 2024
This Order will provide Gigaclear Engineers with safe access to
install ducting and associated fibre cabling
An alternative vehicular route will be signed using Coombe,
Hardings House Lane, Marston Road and vice versa. If you

Temporary Closure of Cole Street Lane,
Gillingham
DORSET COUNCIL intend, not less than seven days from the
date of this notice to make an Order under Section 14 [1] of the
Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. All vehicles
will be prohibited from proceeding along Cole Street Lane,
Gillingham. The Order is needed in order to comply with health
and safety regulations which require the provision of safe
working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to
highway users. It will come into operation between 09:30 - 14:30
on 15th January 2024 and will remain in force for 18 months and
can be extended with the approval of the Secretary of State for
Transport if necessary; however, it is anticipated that the works
will be completed by 26th January 2024. The road will be open
outside of these times and also over the weekend.
This Order will enable Dorset Council to carry out carriageway
maintenance and resurfacing works.
A locally signed diversion route will be put in place to enable
traffic to travel around the closed sections.

Temporary Closure of Shaftesbury Road,
Gillingham
DORSET COUNCIL intend, not less than seven days from the date
of this notice to make an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road
Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. All vehicles will be
prohibited from proceeding along Shaftesbury Road, Gillingham
between Ham Roundabout and Cole Street Lane, a distance of
approximately 320 metres. The order is needed in order to
comply with health and safety regulations, which require the
provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of
danger to highway users. It will come into operation on 15th
January 2024 with the closure in place 24hrs a day and will
remain in force for 18 months, however it is anticipated that the
works will be completed by 30th January 2024. A further closure
is programmed to commence from 5th February 2024 until 16th
February 2024 with the closure in place 24hrs a day.
This Order will enable Mata Construction Limited, safe access
to enable gas connection works in the highway.
A locally signed diversion route will be put in place to enable
traffic to travel around the closed sections.

DORSET COUNCIL intend, not less than seven days from the date
of this notice to make an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road
Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. All vehicles will be
prohibited from proceeding along Bridewell Lane, Motcombe
between North End and Withies Farm, a distance of approximately
210 metres. The order is needed in order to comply with health
and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe working
areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users. It
will come into operation on 3rd January 2024 and will remain in
force for 18 months, however it is anticipated that the works will
be completed by 26th January 2024.
This Order will enable Wessex Water, safe access to install new
water main.
A locally signed diversion route will be put in place to enable
traffi c to travel around the closed sections.

Temporary Closure of Church Street &
Church Lane, Sturminster Newton
DORSET COUNCIL intend, not less than seven days from the
date of this notice to make an Order under Section 14
[1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. All
vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along Church Street &
Church Lane, Sturminster Newton between A Hammond & Sons
Ltd, Church Street and St Mary’s Church, Church Lane (in both
directions), a distance of approximately 150 metres. The Order is
needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations
which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise
the likelihood of danger to highway users. It will come into
operation on 8th January 2024 and will remain in force for 18
months and can be extended with the approval of the Secretary
of State for Transport if necessary; however, it is anticipated that
the works will be completed by 17th January 2024.
This Order will provide Gigaclear with safe access to install
duct and fibre cabling
There will be no alternative route on this occasion, however
access will be maintained.
