The M32 Motorway - Temporary Road Closure

What is happening?

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 –
SECTION 14(1)(b)
THE M32 MOTORWAY (JUNCTIONS 1 AND 2)
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION OF TRAFFIC)
ORDER 2023 NUMBER 2
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways
Limited (a) intends to make an Order on the M32
motorway in the City of Bristol and in South
Gloucestershire because of the likelihood of danger
to the public due to obsolete safety barriers and to
monitor potential improvements to air quality.
The effect of the Order is:
(a) to impose a temporary mandatory 60 miles per
hour speed limit on:
(i) the southbound carriageway of the M32
from 30 metres south of Heath House Lane
Overbridge to 83 metres north of the northern
expansion joint at Eastville Viaduct;
(b) to impose a temporary mandatory 40 miles per
hour speed limit on:
(i) the northbound and southbound carriageways
of the M32 from 83 metres north of the northern
expansion joint at Eastville Viaduct to 22 metres
north of the Severn Beach rail line bridge;
(ii) the northbound and southbound entry and exit
slip roads at Junction 2.
The restrictions would not apply to emergency service
or special forces vehicles.
The temporary mandatory speed limits would be
clearly indicated by traffic signs throughout the
period of danger and would only apply when traffic
management measures are in place.
The Order will come into force on 31 December 2023
and will expire on 23 December 2024.
