What is happening?
SHEFFIELD CITY COUNCIL
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT SHEFFIELD CITY COUNCIL, IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 65 OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT (MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS) ACT 1976, INTEND TO MAKE A VARIATION TO THE TABLE OF FARES FOR HACKNEY CARRIAGES.
The proposed new fare structure is as follows.
Please refer to the report to the Waste & Street Scene Regulation Committee dated 15 November 2023 for further detail.
Any person wishing to object to these proposals should do so in writing to the below by midnight 6 December 2023.

Taxi Fares and Charges
Fares detailed below are the maximum fares that may be charged for journeys that commence within the City Council Boundary.
The taximeter is required to be engaged for these journeys and calculates both time and distance automatically.
Tariff 1 - 7.00 AM until 7.00 PM - Day
First 100 Yards
£3.50
Subsequent 176 yards up to 17600 yards (10 miles)

Tariff 2 - 7.00 PM until 7.00 AM – Night

Waiting Time
For every 45 Seconds the cab is kept waiting

Waiting time is calculated once the vehicle is stood or travelling at less than 8 miles per hour. This equates to £16.00 per hour.
Extras
Each hiring between 6.00pm on 24 December and 6.00am on 27 December and between 6.00pm on 31 December and 6.00am on 2 January

Each hiring on any other official government Bank Holiday.- 07.00am to 07.00am the following day

Journeys that end outside of the district of Sheffield
Drivers may ask for you to agree a fare when the fare ends outside the district of Sheffield. If you agree this fare then the driver must still engage the meter. If the metered fare at the end of your journey is less than that agreed then you may pay the metered fare only. (LGMP Act 1976 S66, Byelaw 19 (b) TPC ACT S54 & S55) If the meter fare is more than agreed you pay the agreed fare only.
The driver of this vehicle must produce a copy of the byelaws to you on request. Vehicle and driver identification must be displayed within the vehicle.
