Fountain Street, Temporary Traffic Restrictions Due To Gas Works

What is happening?

WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS COUNCIL (FOUNTAIN STREET, ULVERSTON) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2023

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable Cadent Gas to carry out utility works ("the Works"), Westmorland and Furness Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to:

1. Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along that section of Fountain Street, Ulverston from its eastern junction with Well Street extending in a westerly direction to the mini roundabout and its junctions with Church Walk,Soutergate and King Street.

Alternative Route: via Hart Street, A590 (Greenodd), A5092 (Gawthwaite) and B5281.

2. Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding other than in an easterly direction along that section of Fountain Street from its western junction with Well Street extending in an easterly direction to its junction with Union Street

N.B. The existing one-way restriction on Fountain Street will be temporarily reversed to facilitate the use of Buxton Place Car Park.

Nothing in the Order to which this notice relates shall:

(i) Apply emergency service vehicles, or vehicles being used by statutory undertakers in the performance of their duties; and

(ii) Apply to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform; and

(iii) Have the effect of preventing at any time access for pedestrians to any premises situated on or adjacent to the roads, or to any other premises accessible for pedestrians from, and only from the roads; and

(iv) Apply to vehicles being used in connection with the Works.

The Order will come into operation on 3rd December 2023 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required for 1 day, and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
