What is happening?

The Canterbury City Council (Off-Street Parking Places) Order 2024

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Canterbury City Council proposes to make the above Order under Sections 32 and 35 and Parts III and IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, with
the consent of Kent County Council under Section 39(3) of the said Act of 1984.

PART A

The Order relates to the following car parks:
Albin’s, Beach Street, Beach Walk, Bisson’s, Black Griffin Lane, Canterbury Coach Park, Castle Row, Castle Street, Chapel Street,
Council Offices (Staff and Visitors), Cow Lane, Essex Street, Faversham Road Car Park, Fountain Street, Franklyn House, Sturry,
Gladstone Road, Gorrell Tank, Gorrell Valley Nature Reserve Car Park, Hampton Pier, Hawks Lane, Holmans Meadow, Keam’s
Yard, Kingfisher Close, Kingsmead Leisure Centre, Longport, Market Street, Marlowe Theatre, Maynard Road, Memorial Park
Herne Bay, Middle Wall, Millers Field, Neptune, New Dover Road Park and Ride, New Street, Northgate, North Lane, Notley
Street, Ocean View, Orange Street, Oyster, Parham Close, Pound Lane, Queningate, Reculver Drive, Reculver Towers, Reculver
Country Park, Regent Street, Riverside, Riverside Children’s Centre, Rosemary Lane, Rye’s, Salt Marsh Lane, St James’ Gardens,

PART B

Article 1.22 is to be replaced with the following:
1.22 ‘Disabled parking bay’ means a bay within a parking place identified by surface markings and or other signage, for the
parking at any time of vehicles displaying valid disabled persons badges only for a maximum period of three hours.
Payment is not required for a period of three hours, provided that the vehicle has been pre-registered for barrier
controlled car parks, after which payment must be made in accordance with charges applicable in that parking place.
Payment will not be required in the Orange Street car park, Canterbury and during the day on Mondays to Saturdays in
Chapel Street car park, Herne Bay;

The following Article is to be removed from the Order:
1.28 Electric Vehicle discount is a saving of 20% of the regular fee, available for an electric vehicle in a barrier controlled
car park provided that the vehicle has been pre-registered with the council. A maximum of 2 such vehicles can be
registered to an account.
