Cumberland, Multiple Roads, Temporary Traffic Restrictions Due To Gas Works

What is happening?

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (MOORCLOSE ROAD, SALTERBECK, BURN ESIDE, HARRINGTON, U266I HILLCREST, NORTHSIDE, WORKINGTON AND BEAUFORT AVENUE AND MARLBOROUGH AVENUE, HIGH HARRINGTON) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2023

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable Northern Gas Networks to carry out utility works ("the Works"), Cumberland Council has made an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the following sections of road:

1. Moorclose Road, Salterbeck, from its junction with the A597 Church Road to its junction with Holden Road.

Alternative Route: via the unrestricted section of Moorclose Road, Westfield Drive, Moss Bay Road and Eller Bank.

Duration: From 6 November 2023 for approx. 5 weeks (Ref: TTRO/8914)

2. Burnside, Harrington from its junction with Church Road, extending in a south easterly direction for approx. 30m.

Alternative Route: via the unrestricted section of Burnside, Eadie Street and Church Road.

Duration: From 13 November 2023 for approx. 3 weeks (Ref: TTRO/8556)

N.B. To facilitate vehicle access/egress to/from that section of Burnside that is not closed the existing "Prohibition of Motor Vehicles (Except for Access)" restriction on the U2445 Burnside, Harrington from its junction with Church Road (C2062) to its junction with Eadie Street, will be temporarily suspended for the duration of the Works

3. U2661 Hillcrest, Northside, Workington from its northern junction with the A597, extending in an easterly direction for approx. 30m.

Alternative Route: via the unrestricted section of the U2661 Hillcrest and the A597.

Duration: From 4 December 2023 for approx. 3 weeks (Ref: TTRO/8628)

4. Beaufort Avenue, High Harrington, for its entire length extending from Seadown Drive.

There is no suitable alternative route available for vehicles.

Duration: From 2 January 2024 for approx. 6 weeks (Ref: TTRO/8644)

5. Marlborough Avenue, High Harrington, for its entire length from its junction with Seadown Drive.

There is no suitable alternative route available for vehicles.

Duration: From 16 January 2024 for approx. 4 weeks (Ref: TTRO/8645)

A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times

Nothing in the Order to which this notice relates shall:

(i) Apply emergency service vehicles, or vehicles being used by statutory undertakers in the performance of their duties; and

(ii) Apply to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform; and

(iii) Have the effect of preventing at any time access for pedestrians to any premises situated on or adjacent to the roads,

or to any other premises accessible for pedestrians from, and only from the roads; and

(iv) Apply to vehicles being used in connection with the Works.

The Order will come into operation on 6 November 2023 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required as detailed above, and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
