Columbia Road, Temporary Prohibition Of Traffic Due To Christmas Wednesday Event
What is happening?
THE LONDON BOROUGH OF TOWER HAMLETS ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14.1 TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC - COLUMBIA ROAD "CHRISTMAS WEDNESDAYS" ORDER 2023
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets made an order, which will prohibit vehicular traffic from entering, stopping, or proceeding, the following temporary prohibition: Columbia Road between its junction with Gossett Street and its junction with Barnet Grove. The restrictions on vehicular traffic will enable late night shopping on "Christmas Wednesdays" to be held on the public highway.
The closure is in place for safety reasons i.e., to protect an anticipated large influx of pedestrians in the Columbia Road surrounding area.
The alternative route for Vehicular traffic will be via Chambord Street, Virginia Road, Columbia Road (Westbound), Hackney Road (Southbound), Shoreditch High Street (Southbound), Bethnal Green Road (Eastbound), Barnet Grove (Northbound), Gosset Street (Eastbound) and Warner Place.
Access will be provided for Police, Fire and Ambulance vehicles in an emergency or access may also be provided with the permission of a police officer in uniform.
The Order will operate on the following Wednesdays when temporary traffic signs are placed on the public highway pursuant of Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016:
a) Wednesday 29th November 2023 from 17:00 hours until 21:00 hours.
b) Wednesday 6th December 2023 from 17:00 hours until 21:00 hours.
c) Wednesday 13th December 2023 from 17:00 hours until 21:00 hours.
d) Wednesday 20st December 2023 from 17:00 hours until 21:00 hours.
