CITY OF BRISTOL

(VARIOUS ROADS, CITY CENTRE, BRISTOL) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF USE BY VEHICLES AND EXEMPTED VEHICLES)
(TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF ONE WAY TRAFFIC)
(TEMPORARY USE OF RESERVED BUS LANE)
(TEMPORARY LEFT TURN BY EXEMPTED VEHICLES) ORDER 2023

NOTICE is hereby given that the City Council of Bristol in pursuance of the provisions of section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended intend to make an Order the effect of which will be:

1. to close, temporarily, to vehicles and vehicles exempted from the existing prohibitions of driving, the lengths of roads as specified in Schedule 1 to this Notice;
2. to permit, temporarily, taxis to make a left turn and use the south eastbound reserved bus lane in operation between Colston Avenue (western section) and Colston Avenue (eastern section) so as to give effect to the phase 2 alternative route in Schedule 2 to this Notice as a consequence of item 1. above; and
3. to suspend, temporarily, when appropriate signs are covered, the existing one way traffic working in:-
(a) a south westerly direction in Bell Lane;
(b) a north westerly direction in Broad Street;
(c) a south easterly direction in St. Stephens Street, from Colston Avenue to Corn Street; and
(d) a north westerly direction in St. Stephens Street, from Baldwin Street to Corn Street - so as to allow access and egress for works vehicles and give effect to the alternative routes in Schedule 2 to this Notice as a consequence of item 1. above.

The Order is required because vehicle barrier installation and trenching works are being or are proposed to be executed on or near the roads and will be operative from 12th November 2023 for a maximum period of eighteen months. However, the closures may not be implemented for the whole of the period, but only when traffic signs are in position as necessitated by the works (which are anticipated to be of between 1 and 2 weeks duration for each phased closure within the period between 12th November 2023 and 3rd December 2023).

In addition, the closure of lengths of roads specified in Schedule 1 to this Notice which also provide part of an alternative route (as specified in Schedule 2 to this Notice) will be managed so as to allow the provision of the alternative routes whilst facilitating the works programme.
