Imposition of 20mph Speed Limit Zone in Farnham Town Centre and 20mph Speed Limit in Weydon Lane Area
1. On 26 October 2023 Surrey County Council (“County Council”) made, with modifications, the following Orders under Section 84 of and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 “the Act” (as amended) and all other enabling powers:-
(a) Surrey County Council (Various Roads in Farnham Town Centre) (20mph Speed Limit Zone) Order 2023, the effect of which will be to impose a 20mph speed limit in the lengths of roads specified in Schedule 1 to this Notice, which will be signed as a 20mph zone;
(b) Surrey County Council (Various Roads in Farnham) (20mph Speed Limit) Order 2023, the effect of which will be to:-
(i) impose a 20mph speed limit in the lengths of roads specified in Schedule 2 to this Notice; and
(ii) carry out legal drafting amendments to “The Surrey County Council Weydon Lane (D5317) Farnham (20mph Speed Limit and 30 mph Speed Limit) Order 2005” so as to omit the Schedule imposing a 30mph in Weydon Lane, in its entirety.
2. The County Council has deferred proposals in Upper Hale Road and Alma Lane, Farnham.
3. The 20mph speed limit and speed limit zone imposed by this Order shall not apply to vehicles used by special forces in accordance with the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011.
4. A copy of the made Order, which will come into operation on 27 October 2023, plans showing the lengths of roads to which the Order relates and a Statement of the Council’s reasons for making the Order may be viewed on-line at https://www.surreycc.gov.uk/roads-and-transport/policiesplans-consultations/roads-and-transport-consultations (follow the link to Farnham Town Centre Optimised Infrastructure Plan, 20mph speed limit proposal). 1. Crondall Lane, Farnham – from a point 35m west of the centre point of its junction with Cascade Way to its junction with West Street;
2. West Street, Farnham – from a point 30m east of the centre point of its junction with Mount Pleasant to the eastern extent of West Street;
3. Firgrove Hill, Farnham – from a point 9m north of the centre point of its junction with Trafalgar Court to the northern extent of Firgrove Hill;
4. Red Lion Lane, Farnham – its entire length;
5. South Street, Farnham – from its northern extent to a point 25m north of its stop line at the junction with Farnham Bypass;
6. East Street, Farnham – from its junction with South Street to a point 135m east of the centre point of its junction with St Cross Road
7. Stoke Hills, Farnham – from a point 135m east of the centre point of its junction with St James’ Avenue to the western extent of Stoke Hills;
8. Castle Street, Farnham – from a point 75m north of the centre point of its junction with Park Row to its junction with The Borough;
9. Byworth Road, Farnham – from a point 10m south of its junction with Crondall Lane to its junction with Hazell Road; 10. Tor Road, Farnham – its entire length;
