A2 TRUNK ROAD (HARBLEDOWN TO BISHOPSBOURNE)
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited has made an Order on the A2 Trunk Road in the County of Kent, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.
The effect of the Order is to:-
1. authorise the extended overnight closure of both carriageways of the A2 between Harbledown Junction (A2050) and Bishopsbourne Junction and all slip roads leading to and from these lengths of carriageway.
2. impose a 24-hour 40mph speed limit on both carriageways of the A2 between Patrixbourne Junction and Bishopsbourne Junction and all slip roads leading to and from these lengths of carriageway.
3. impose a 24-hour, 2.25 metre width restriction on the outside lane on the lengths of carriageway described in 2. above.
These measures are in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake bridge and all associated works.
It is expected that the work will last for approximately 4 months starting on or after Friday 3rd November 2023. The extended overnight closures will take place between 20:00 and 08:00 (maximum period) and will occur mostly at weekends, with occasional additional closures during the week. Please check National Highways website for details of specific closures.
The Order will come into force on 1st November 2023 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.
Through traffic affected by the closures will be strategically diverted using the A2050, A28, A253, A299 and the A256 in either direction. Local traffic will
follow appropriate local diversions. The temporary closures and diversion routes will be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
