What is happening?
THE CITY OF EDINBURGH COUNCIL
(CHARLOTTE SQUARE AREA) (TEMPORARY ROAD
RESTRICTION AND TRAFFIC REGULATION)
ORDER 2023 – TEMP/23/222
The Council has made an order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, the effect of which will be that for a temporary period, to facilitate carriageway resurfacing and drainage improvement works, no person shall: (a) drive or cause or permit to be driven any vehicle: (1) at any time on: George St (both carriageways), from its jnct with Charlotte Sq (east leg), eastwards for 30m; (2) DAILY from 7am to 7pm on: (i) Charlotte Sq (nth side), in its entirety; (ii) Charlotte Sq (west side), in its entirety; & (iii) Charlotte Sq (sth side), in its entirety; & (3) DAILY from 7pm to 6am on: (i) Charlotte Sq (east side), in its entirety; (ii) Nth Charlotte St, in its entirety; & (iii) Sth Charlotte St, in its entirety; (b) except with the permission of a Parking Attendant, cause or permit any vehicle to wait or load onto or unload from any vehicle at any time on both sides of (i) Charlotte Sq, in its entirety; (ii) Nth Charlotte St, in its entirety; (iii) Sth Charlotte St, in its entirety; & (iv) George St (both carriageways), from its jnct with Charlotte Sq (east leg), eastwards for 30m; & (c) drive or cause or permit to be driven any vehicle on the road described in column 1 of Sch 1 so as to make the prohibited turn specified in column 2 of Sch 1, into the road specified in column 3 of Sch 1. The Order shall have effect from 2/10/23 to 24/11/23. The alternative routes for vehicular traffic with respect to the closures are via: (i) nthbound: Lothian Rd, West Approach Rd, Morrison Link, Morrison St, West Maitland St, Palmerston Pl, Chester St, Drumsheugh Gdns, Queensferry St, Randolph Cres, Great Stuart St, Ainslie Pl, St Colme St & Albyn Pl; & (ii) sthbound: Albyn Pl, St Colme St, Ainslie Pl, Great
Stuart St, Randolph Cres, Melville St, Manor Pl, Atholl Pl, Torphichen St, Deward Pl, Morrison St & Lothian Rd. The alternative routes for vehicular traffic with respect to the prohibition of turning are via: (i) Charlotte Sq (nth leg) – Charlotte Sq; & (ii) Charlotte Sq (east leg) – Nth Charlotte St, Albyn Pl, Queen St, Nth Castle St & George St. The 1973 Order will be suspended on Charlotte Square in so far as it is affected by the restrictions described above. Existing restrictions will be suspended on the affected sections of roads described in (b).
