Silent Bank, Temporary Road Closure Due To Joint Box Renewal Works
What is happening?
The County Council of Durham (A181 Silent Bank, Running Waters ) (Temporary Road Closure) Order 2023
The Council on 15/9/23 made the above Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act, 1984 as amended, Section 14 (1) to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on a 3.6 kilomlength of A181 Silent Bank, Running Waters between its junctions with A688 Byers Garth and B6291 west of Thornley to enable telecom joint boxes to be renewed works to be undertaken.
Alternative routes will be available to vehicular traffic from the a) Eastern side of the closure from A181 turning south westerly on B6291 to Coxhoe and turning north westerly at the traffic lights and continuing on B6291 to the A688 Roundabout off Interchange Junction 61, then northerly on A688 to Byers Garth Roundabout to the western side of the closure, and vice versa b) Western side of the closure via Mill Lane to Sherburn, then easterly on B1283 to the junction with B1280, then south to the junction with A181 at Wingate/Wellfield to the eastern side of the closure, and vice versa.
The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are to commence between 8am and 5pm from 24/9/23 and are anticipated to be completed in 2 consecutive Sundays. On occasions, alternative dates for closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
