What is happening?

Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A282 Trunk Road in the County of Kent and the Unitary Authority of Thurrock, under Section 14(1)(a) and 14(7) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.
The effect of the Order would be to authorise, in phases overnight or for an extended period over the weekend –
1. authorise the closure of both carriageways of the A282 between Junction 2 (A2) and Junction 30 (A13);
2. authorise the closure of all of the slip/link roads leading to and from the lengths of carriageway described in 1. above;
3. authorise contraflows in either direction between the movable barriers, north and south of the crossing as required; and
4. impose a height restriction of 4.8 metres when the west bore of the tunnel is closed.
These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake bridge and tunnel works, electrical works, surveys and inspections, and all associated works.
It is expected that the work would last for approximately 18 months starting on or after Saturday 7th October 2023. The overnight closures would take place between (maximum period):
Sundays – Fridays 20:30 – 06:00
Saturdays 20:00 – 10:00
The Order would come into force on 6th October 2023 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months.
Traffic affected by the closures would be diverted via the opposite tunnel bore when one is closed or other junctions of the A282 or by using the M25, A2, A13 and the A102.
The temporary closures and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
