What is happening?
THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (CLOSURE OF ROADS
AND FOOTWAYS IN MARINE WALK, ROKER)
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2023
Sunderland City Council gives notice that on 5th September 2023 it made two Orders under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effects of which will be to temporarily prohibit all traffic along the roads and footways in the Schedule. The Orders are required to enable gas main works to take place in or near the roads and footways. The Orders come into operation on 11th September 2023. The maximum duration of the closure under the Orders will be 6 months, however the roads will be closed in accordance with the Schedule below. it is estimated that the closures will only be in place from 11th September until 27th October. All vehicles, cyclists and horses will be prohibited from the roads (except vehicles and machinery involved in the works), until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. Vehicular access for affected residents will be provided at all times. Pedestrian access to affected properties will be maintained throughout. Alternative routes will be provided via the adjacent highway network.
Schedule - Closures from 11th September until 13th October: Horatio Street North Back from its junction with Cooper Street for a distance of 15 metres in an easterly direction; Horatio Street from its junction with Cooper Street for a distance of 15 metres in an easterly direction; Givens Street from its junction with Dame Dorothy Street for a distance of 15 metres in a westerly direction.
Closures from 2nd October until 27th October; Featherstone Street from its junction with Harbour View for a distance of 15 metres in a northerly direction; Featherstone Street East Back from its junction with Harbour View for a distance of 15 metres in a northerly direction; Benedict Road from its junction with Harbour View for a distance of 15 metres in a north-westerly direction.
