What is happening?

Temporary Road Closure Order 2023

The Council on 25/8/2023 made the above Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act, 1984 as amended, Section 14 (1) to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on a 330 metre length of the A177 that extends generally eastwards between its junctions with Cornforth Lane and the Bogma Hall Farm Road, Coxhoe to enable carriage way resurfacing works to be undertaken.

It will also be necessary to temporarily suspend the 18 tonne weight limit between A177 and the traffic light junction in Coxhoe, as detailed in The County Council of Durham (Various Locations)(Easington District, Coxhoe and Durham City)(Weight Restriction Order) 2006 Schedule A, as amended.

An alternative route will be available to vehicular traffic from the eastern side of the closure from the A177, northerly on the C23 Station Road and continuing north on the B6291 through Coxhoe to Junction 61 A1 Interchange then southerly on the A177 to Tursdale Roundabout to the western side of the closure, and vice versa.

The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are to commence at 7pm on Friday 1/9/2023 and are anticipated to be completed in 5 nights (weekend nights only) to 6 am each following morning. On occasions, alternative dates for closure may be necessary and these will be signed accordingly.
