What is happening?

WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS COUNCIL (VARIOUS ROADS IN THE WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS AREA) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) (NO.7) ORDER 2023

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable Westmorland and Furness Highways to carry out bridge repair works ("the Works"), Westmorland and Furness Council has made an Order the effect of which is to;

1. Prohibit all traffic (i.e vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists) from proceeding along the lengths of road specified below;

(i) A684, Sedbergh from a point approx. 430m west from its junction with Slacks Lane, extending in a westerly direction for a distance of approx. 70m.

For vehicles permitted to use the motorway: via the unrestricted sections of the A684, M6, A65 and the A683. For vehicles NOT permitted to use the motorway: via the unrestricted sections of the A684, B6256 and A683.

Duration: From 3rd September 2023 for approx. 3 weeks (Ref: TTRO/6234)

(ii) C5085 Hutton Roof from a point approx. 515m south west from its junction with the C5087 extending in a south westerly direction for a distance of approx. 370m.

Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the C5085, A6070 (Crooklands), A65 and B6254.

Duration: From 4th September 2023 for approx. 3 weeks (Ref: TTRO/6287)

(iii) B5281 Broughton Beck from its junction with U5102 extending in a north westerly direction for a distance of approx. 160m.

South bound traffic: via the unrestricted sections of the B5281, A5092, A590, Swan Street, Hart Street, Fountain Street, Soutergate and Town Bank Road.

North bound traffic via the unrestricted sections of the B5281, A590 and A5092.

Duration: From 4th September 2023 for approx. 3 weeks (Ref: TTRO/6288)

(iv) C5049 Backbarrow from a point approx. 60m south west from its junction with the C5050 extending in a south westerly direction for a distance of approx. 25m.

Alternative Route: via the unresticted section of the C5049, A590 and the C5050.

Duration: From 4th September 2023 for approx. 3 weeks (Ref:TTRO/6265)

(v) U5427, Carlingill Bridge, Fairmile Road near Sedbergh from a point approx. 2.4km south east of its junction with the A685, extending in a prodominently south easterly direction for a distance of approx. 280m.

Alternative Route: via the unrestricted section of Fairmile Road, Howgill Lane, A684 Main Street, Station Road, A683, B6256, A684, B6257, A685 and the U3285.

Duration: From 1st September 2023 for approx. 4 weeks (Ref: TTRO/7184)

(vi) U5472, Fairmile Bridge, Fairmile Road near Sedbergh, from a point approx. 4.3km south west of its junction with the A685 extending in a south westerly direction for a distance of approx. 310m.

Alternative Route: via the unrestricted section of Fairmile Road, Howgill Lane, A684 Main Street, Station Road, A683, B6256, A684, B6257, A685 and the U3285.

Duration: From 1st September 2023 for approx. 4 weeks (Ref: TTRO/7184)

(vii) U5472, Nursery Wood Culvert, Howgill Lane near Sedbergh, from a point approx. 700m south east of its junction with Slacks Lane, extending in a south easterly direction for a distance of approx. 250m.

Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the U5472, A684 Main Street, Station Road, A683 B6256, A684, B6257, A685 and the U3285.

Duration: From 1st September 2023 for approx. 4 weeks (Ref: TTRO/7184)

2. Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding at speeds in excess of 30 miles per hour along that section of the;

(i) C5101 Dent from its junction with Hollow Lane extending in a north westerly direction for a distance of approx. 100m.

Duration: From 4th September 2023 for approx. 3 weeks (Ref: TTRO/6259)

(ii) B6254 Old Town from its junction with Goodmickle Lane extending in a south easterly direction for a distance of approx. 100m.

Duration: From 4th September 2023 for approx. 3 weeks (Ref: TTRO/6261)

(iii) A595, Wreaks Causeway from its junction with the U5073 extending in a predominantly south easterly direction for a distance of approx. 12 km.

Duration: From 18th September 2023 for approx. 2 days (Ref: TTRO/7396)

No speed limit imposed by this Order with reference to item (2), (3) and (4) above, will apply to vehicles falling within regulation 3(4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011 when used in accordance with regulation 3(5) of those Regulations.

Nothing in the Order with reference to item (1) above to which this notice relates shall:

1. Apply to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform; and

2. Have the effect of preventing at any time access for pedestrians to any premises situated on or adjacent to the roads, or to any other premises accessible for pedestrians from, and only from the roads; and

3. Apply to vehicles being used in connection with the Works.

The Order will come into operation on 1st September 2023 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required as stated in the schedule and only as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed.
