M2 Motorway Junctions 4-7 Temporary Traffic Restrictions

M2 MOTORWAY – JUNCTIONS 4 TO 7
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited has made an Order on the M2 Motorway in the County of Kent and the Unitary Authority of Medway, under Sections 14(1)(a) and (7) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.
The effect of the Order is to: -
1. authorise the phased overnight and total weekend closure of –
(a) the coastbound carriageway of the M2 between Junction 4 (A278) and Junction 6 (A251);
(b) the London-bound carriageway of the M2 between Junction 7 (A2/A299) Junction 4 (A278); and
(c) all slip roads leading to and from these lengths of carriageway.
2. impose a 24-hour 50mph speed limit on –
(a) both carriageways of the M2 between Junction 5 (A249) and Junction 7 (A2/A299);
(b) the coastbound carriageway of the M2 between a point 900 metres west and 50 metres east of the centreline of Mount Lane underbridge; and
(c) the London-bound carriageway of the M2 between a point 900 metres east and 50 metres west of the centreline of Mount Lane underbridge.
3. impose a 24-hour weight restriction of 7.5 tonnes in the right-most lane of –
(a) the coastbound carriageway of the M2 between Junction 5 (A249) and Junction 6 (A251); and
(b) the London-bound carriageway of the M2 between Junction 7 (A2/A299) and Junction 5 (A249).
4. authorise the 24-hour use of the hard shoulder adjacent to –
(a) the coastbound carriageway of the M2 between Junction 5 (A249) and Junction 6 (A251);
(b) the London-bound carriageway of the M2 between Junction 7 (A2/A299) and Junction 5 (A249); and
(c) both carriageways of the M2 between points 250 metres west and 250 metres east of the centreline of Mount Lane underbridge.
These measures are in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake drainage, bridge and all associated works.
It is expected that the work will last for approximately 10 months starting on or after Friday 8th September 2023. The overnight closures will take place between 20:00 and 06:00. Weekends closures will take place between 20:00 on Fridays to 06:00 on Mondays.

The Order will come into force on 7th September 2023 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.
Traffic affected by the closures will be diverted using other junctions on the M2, or by using the M20, A20, A229, A249, A251 and the A252. The diversion in operation will vary according to the closure in force.
The temporary closures, speed limits, weight restrictions, hard shoulder running and diversion routes will be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
