Connaught Road - Various Traffic Restrictions

What is happening?


NOTICE is hereby given that on 21st August 2023 Luton Borough Council, the Highway Authority for the said Borough, made the above Order under the relevant provisions of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended). The Order will come into force on 4th September 2023 and will be in force for an experimental period of up to 18 months.
The general effect of the Order will be to introduce on an experimental basis the following provisions:-
a) Introduce a one way system of travel on
Connaught Road from a point 5 metres
east of lamp column No.24 on Connaught
Road to its junction with Chaul End Lane.
b) A no entry restriction from Chaul End
Lane into Connaught Road.
c) A no right turn restriction from Connaught
Road into Chaul End Lane.

The Council will consider in due course whether the provisions of the above Order should continue in force indefinitely by means of a permanent Order made under sections 1, 32 and 45 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. If you wish to object to the making of a permanent Order you should send the grounds of your objection in writing to the undersigned by 4th March 2024 (quoting reference EXP/P2159) or, if the Order is subsequently varied by another Order made under section 9 or modified pursuant to section 10(2) of the 1984 Act, within six months from the coming into operation of that variation or modification (whichever is the latest).
A copy of this Notice together with the Order and a statement of the Council’s reasons for making the Order are available to view, please email and copies will be emailed over or if available posted out.
Any person wishing to question the validity of the Order or any provision contained in it on the grounds that they are not within the powers contained in the above Act or any requirement of that Act or any regulation made under it has not been complied with in relation to the Order, may, within six weeks of the date on which the Order was made, apply to the High Court for this purpose.
