NOTICE is given that Oxfordshire County Council proposes to make the above orders under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and all other enabling powers. The effect of the orders is to make permanent the prohibition of driving and waiting under the measures introduced by the Oxfordshire County Council (Wantage Market Place Area) (Prohibition of Driving and Waiting) Experimental Order 2021, brought in to enable a car-free safe use of outdoor space near the local retail premises. Driving into/through the closed areas will continue to be prohibited within the following sections of road:

b) the southern section of Alfred Street and
c) the northern section of Church Street. Exemptions for access are permitted for deliveries/ collections, statutory services, essential access to premises, and for emergency services. The previous permanently signed & lined parking areas (before the Experimental Order) will not be reinstated, and waiting will continue to be prohibited in their place:

2. the Motorcycle parking places removed from the west side of Alfred Street.
The following amendments will be made to parking provisions as follows:
3. The two existing Disabled Persons Parking Places
on the south side of Market Square will be relocated further eastwards, adjacent to the new 'horse-shoe' carriageway alignment, with the current bus bay shortened marginally to accommodate, and
4. the Taxi rank (for approx. 7 vehicles) located on the north side of Market Square will be relocated further eastwards to sit adjacent to the new 'horse-shoe' arrangement, and shortened to provide space for approx. 4 vehicles.
The two Taxi spaces at the southwest end are to be 'shared use' i.e. to allow general loading from '5am to 10am & from 2.30pm to 4pm all days (1 hour stay, no return within 1 hour) and for taxis outside of these times. During the currency of the Experimental Order the proposals were approved for implementation at the Cabinet Members Decision meeting on 23 March 2023 (item No.59/23). Following further comments from the public and retail properties, and due to other adjustments being considered the scheme is being re-consulted.
