What is happening?

A1061 /B1523 SOUTH NEWSHAM ROAD BLYTH
(TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE and SPEED RESTRICTION)
ORDER 2023

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Northumberland County Council have made an Order to temporarily close the lengths of roads shown below and to hereby introduce speed restrictions on the lengths of roads shown below:-
1. Road Closure:
Road closures will be introduced on the following lengths of roads:-
A1061 South Newsham Road from its junction with A1061 Laverock Hall Road roundabout heading in an easterly direction for a distance of 1646 metres.
A1061 South Newsham Road from its junction with U9524 Sandringham Road heading in a westerly direction for a distance of 1646 metres.
B1523 South Newsham Road southbound lane from its point 78 metres north of its junction with A1061 South Newsham Road heading in a southerly direction for a distance of 78 metres.
B1523 South Newsham Road northbound lane from its junction with A1061 South Newshan Road heading in a northerly direction for a distance of 78 metres.
The alternative route for vehicular traffic will be via the Plessey Road, Rotary Way, Links Road, South Newsham Road, Newcastle Road and vice versa.
2. Speed Restrictions:
Speed restrictions will be introduced on the following lengths of roads and no vehicular traffic shall travel in excess of 30mph on those roads shown below:-
A1061 South Newsham Road eastbound lane from 50 mph down to 30 mph starting at its junction with A1061 Laverock Hall Road roundabout heading in an easterly direction for a distance of 855 metres.
A1061 South Newsham Road westbound lane from 50 mph down to 30mph from its point 142 metres west of its junction with A1061 South Newsham Roundabout heading in a westerly direction for a distance of 855 metres.
A1061 South Newsham Road eastbound lane from 40 mph down to 30 mph from its point 142 metres west of its junction with A1061 South Newsham Roundabout heading in an easterly direction for a distance of 790 metres.
A1061 South Newsham Road westbound lane from 40 mph down to 30 mph from its junction with U9524 Sandringham Road heading in a westerly direction for a distance of 790 metres.
B1523 South Newsham Road northbound lane from 40 mph down to 30 mph from its junction with A1061 South Newshan Road heading in a northerly direction for a distance of 78 metres.
B1523 South Newsham Road southbound lane from 40 mph down to 30 mph from its point 78 metres north of its junction with A1061 South Newsham Road heading in a southerly direction for a distance of 78 metres.
The Order will be effective from the 31st July 2023 and will remain in place until the 31st December 2024.
It is expected that the road closure and speed restrictions will be in force at all times during this Order.
The road closures and speed restrictions have been requested by Morgan Sindall, Centurion Site Services and Chevron Traffic Management to construct new alignments of the highway, including new roundabouts, junctions, accesses and station for the Northumberland Line Rail Project and existing level crossing maintenance works. In order to minimise future disruption, other contractors may be undertaking works throughout the duration of this Order.
