What is happening?

(BURNHOPE ROAD AND THORNHOPE CLOSE)
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2023

Sunderland City Council gives notice that on 27th June 2023 it made an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which is to temporarily prohibit all pedestrian traffic from the footways of Burnhope Road and Thornhope Close for their entire length. The Order is required to allow for gas main works. The order comes into force on 6th July 2023. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order will be six months. However, the works will take approximately nine weeks to complete. All pedestrians will be prohibited from the footways of Burnhope Road and Thornhope Close for their entire length (except for personnel involved in the works), until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. An alternative route will be provided and pedestrian access to properties will be maintained throughout.
