What is happening?

THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND
(WORLD TRIATHLON CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES 2023)
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2023

Sunderland City Council gives notice that it intends to make an Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended), and with the consent of the Secretary of State under Section 16B of that Act, in order to facilitate the holding of a relevant event, namely the World Triathlon Championship Series (‘the Event’) which is to take place on 29th and 30th July 2023.
The effect of the Order will be to:- (a) prohibit vehicular traffic along the lengths of road specified in Schedules 1 and 4; (b) prohibit pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders along the lengths of highway specified in Schedule 2; (c) prohibit vehicles from waiting and loading/unloading along all the lengths of roads, side roads and junctions as specified in Schedules 1, 3 and 4; and (d) suspend the operation of the parking places specified in the Suspensions Schedule. The Order shall come into force at 00.01 hours on Monday 24th July 2023 and shall cease at 23.59 hours on Wednesday 2nd August 2023. During the Events, diversions for vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders will be signposted via the adjacent road and highway network not required for the Event. The prohibitions shall apply at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. There will be exemptions in the Order for police, fire and rescue services and ambulance vehicles and personnel on duty and attending emergency calls, vehicles being used in connection with the Event and persons officiating in the Event.

The following are for their full extent unless stated: Wheatsheaf Court; Hallgarth Court; Normanby Court; Craven Court; Hamilton Court; Liddell Court; Bloomfield Court; Saint Georges Terrace; Park Parade; South Cliff; Roker Terrace; North Cliff; Whitburn Road; Cliffe Park; Dykel;ands Road; Barbury Drive; Brunel Drive; Marine Walk; Roker Park Terrace; Pier View; Ravine Terrace; Roker Terrace West Back; Featherstone Street East Back; Ravine Terrace South Back; Saint Georges Terrace North Back; Roker Park Terrace East Back. Dame Dorothy Street from North Bridge Street – eastbound movement only to Church Street North and from its intersection with Sandpoint Road to its north-eastern extent; Roker Park Road from its junction with Bede Street to its junction with Side Cliff Road; Whitburn Road from its intersection with Cliffe Park to its junction with Lowry Road; Seafields from its junction with Dykelands Road to its junction with Lowry Road; Roker Baths Road from its intersection with Park Parade to its junction with Hampden Road.
SCHEDULE 2 - FOOTPATHS AND CYCLE PATHS THAT WILL BE CLOSED IN CONNECTION WITH THE EVENT Between 05.00am on 29th July until 17.30pm on 30th July 2023
Footpath leading from Palmers Hill Road to Palmers Hill Quay; National Cycle Network off-road cycle path, northern riverside route from Palmer’s Hill Quay, in an easterly then northerly direction; Entire lengths of all associated footpaths between: Hallgarth Court and Wheatsheaf Court; Hallgarth Court and Craven Court; Craven Court and Liddell Court; Hamilton Court and Normanby Court; Normanby Court and Wheatsheaf Court. Footpath which extends from Marine Walk into Roker Park beneath Roker Terrace.
SCHEDULE 3 - PROHIBITION OF WAITING AND LOADING / UNLOADING AT ANY TIME Between 05.00AM on 28th July until 17.30pm on 30th July 2023
Sand Point Road for its full extent and Dame Dorothy Street the On-street parking bays between Sand Point Road and Benedict Road (both sides).
SCHEDULE 4 - ROADS TO BE CLOSED IN CONNECTION WITH THE EVENT AND PROHIBITION OF PARKING AND PROHIBITION OF WAITING AND LOADING / UNLOADING AT ANY TIME Between 09.30am and 11.15am on Friday 28th July 2023 for Route Familiarisation
Each road is closed for its full extent unless stated otherwise; South Cliff; Roker Terrace; North Cliff; Saint George’s Terrace; Saint George’s terrace North Back; Park Parade; Roker Park Road; Roker Terrace West Back; Roker Park Terrace East Back; Ravine Terrace; Ravine Terrace South Back; Roker Park Terrace. Harbour View from its junction with Featherstone Street East Back in an easterly direction. Whitburn Road from its junction with Side Cliffe Road to the junction of Seaburn Terrace.
