M3 MOTORWAY – JUNCTION 4A - 3
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the M3 Motorway in the Counties of Hampshire and Surrey, under Sections 14(1)(a) and 15(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.

The effect of the Order would be:-
1) to authorise the overnight, weekend, and 24-hour closure (details below) of:-

a) the London-bound carriageway of the M3 between Junction 4a (A327) and Junction 3 (A332);
b) all the roads leading to and from the carriageway described in a) above; and
c) all emergency refuge areas adjacent to the carriageway described in a) above.

2) to impose a mandatory 24-hour 50mph speed limit on:-

a) the London-bound carriageway of the M3 between a point approximately 1300 metres north-east of the centreline of Curly Lane pedestrian overbridge and a point approximately 268 metres north-east of the centreline of the north-eastern overbridge at Ravenswood Roundabout; and

b) the road leading to the carriageway in a) above at Junction 4 (A331).

These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake carriageway surveys and inspections, remedial works, and all associated works.

There is no current known completion date for these works owing to the sudden and unexpected nature of the road subsidence. The closures would be a combination of overnight, weekend and longer continuous periods as the work demands. A lane one closure will also be imposed on a 24-hour ongoing basis. Details would be found on the National Highways website. Overnight closures only would take place between 21:00 and 06:00 (maximum period).

The Order would come into force on 22nd July 2023.

In compliance with the terms of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 Section 15(2) it would be revoked when the works are complete.

Traffic affected by the closures would be diverted by using the A327, A30, and A332, and the A331 if closed from Junction 4.

The temporary closures, speed restrictions, and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
