What is happening?

THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND
SECTIONS 90A AND 90C HIGHWAYS ACT 1980 – ROAD HUMP NOTICE
PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION OF SPEED CUSHION - ALLENDALE ROAD, SUNDERLAND

Notice is hereby given that the Council of the City of Sunderland in exercise of its powers under Section 90A of the Highways Act 1980 and after consultation in accordance with Section 90C of the Highways Act 1980 proposes to construct twenty three speed cushions (road humps) complying with the Highways (Road Humps) Regulations 1999 as a traffic calming measure to reduce vehicle speeds along Allendale Road, Sunderland. The current speed limit on the above length of road varies between 20mph and 30mph. The road humps are in the forms of speed cushions which are raised sections of the carriageway, designed to control vehicle speeds.
The locations, nature and dimensions and location of the proposed road humps are as follows: -
Dimensions 
All speed cushions will have the following dimensions: Overall Width: 1800 mm; Length: 3000mm; On/off Gradient: 1:10; Plateau Length 1500mm; Max Height:  75 mm  
1. Location of Single Speed Cushions - A single speed cushion will be centred longitudinally at the given reference point.
Locations - Allendale Road from the centre of the eastern carriageway at a point 0.6 metres north of the extended party property boundary of 218 Allendale Road & 97 Avonmouth Road; Allendale Road from the centre of the western carriageway at a point 5.0 metres south of the extended party property boundary of 218 Allendale Road & 97 Avonmouth Road; Allendale Road from the centre of the eastern carriageway at a point 11.0 metres south of the extended party property boundary of 165 & 167 Allendale Road; Allendale Road from the centre of the western carriageway at a point 16.4 metres south of the extended party property boundary of 165 & 167 Allendale Road; Allendale Road from the centre of the eastern carriageway, at a point 5.2 metres south-west of the extended party property boundary of 132 & 134 Allendale Road; Allendale Road from the centre of the western carriageway at a point 11.0 metres south-west of the extended party property boundary of 132 & 134 Allendale Road; Allendale Road from the centre of the eastern carriageway, at a point 1.4 metres south of the extended party property boundary of 15 Allendale Road & 1 Alnwick Road; Allendale Road from the centre of the western carriageway, at a point 7.6 metres south of the extended party property boundary of 15 Allendale Road & 1 Alnwick Road.
2. Pairs of Speed Cushions - A pair of speed cushions will be centred longitudinally at the given reference point.
Locations Allendale Road from the centre of the carriageway, at a point 9.8 metres north of the extended party property boundary of 77 & 79 Allendale Road; Allendale Road from the centre of the carriageway, at a point 4.0 metres south of the extended party property boundary of 29 & 31 Allendale Road; Allendale Road from the centre of the carriageway, at a point 3.2 metres north-east of the extended party property boundary of 1 & 3 Allendale Road.
3. Triple Speed Cushions Three speed cushions will be centred longitudinally at the given reference point.
Locations Allendale Road from the centre of the carriageway, at a point 5.6 metres north-east of the extended party property boundary of 190 & 192 Allendale Road; Allendale Road from the centre of the carriageway, at a point 0.2 metres north-east of the extended party property boundary of 112 & 114 Allendale Road; Allendale Road from the centre of the carriageway, at a point 78.5 metres south-west of the extended party property boundary of 81 & 83 Allendale Road.
The plans and statement of reasons for the above proposed road humps may be inspected during normal opening hours at City Hall, Plater Way, Sunderland SR1 3AA, until the end of the consultation period. Objections to the proposed road humps must be made in writing to E. Waugh, Assistant Director of Law and Governance, City Hall, Plater Way, Sunderland SR1 3AA or via email at: statutoryorders@sunderland.gov.uk on or before the 13th July 2023 and any objection must state the grounds on which it is made.
