What is happening?
THE BOROUGH OF LUTON
(MUHARRAM PROCESSION)
(TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURES)
ORDER 2023
NOTICE is hereby given that Luton Borough Council, the Highway Authority for the said Borough, intends to make the above Order under the relevant provisions of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended).
The Order will come into operation on 30th July 2023 and cease operation after 24 hours or when the proposed procession has finished, whichever is the earlier. Anticipated closure date and times of closure will be on 30th July 2023, from 12:30pm to 5:30pm. Specific times will be signed locally. The Order will therefore be in operation during such time and to such extent as indicated by traffic signs, barriers or cones.
The effect of the Order will allow the Council to temporarily close to vehicular traffic various lengths of the event roads (including roads adjoining the event roads), namely Beechwood Road, Dunstable Road, Moor Street. The Order is intended to create a window for the procession to take place and it is anticipated that the procession will take place within the date described as above.
The purpose of the Order is to enable the safe passage of highway users partaking in the Muharram procession. Roads will only be closed as the procession passes using a rolling road closure. Diversion will be via Dunstable Road, Chaul End Lane, Hatters Way, Dunstable Road. Details of road closures and diversions can be found at http://www.luton.gov.uk/roadworks
Access will be maintained as best as possible to properties where this may be done safely whilst the procession takes place and diversions for traffic will be marked by signs.
