London Road Area - Temporary Traffic Retrictions
What is happening?
THE CITY OF EDINBURGH COUNCIL
(LONDON ROAD AREA) (TEMPORARY ROAD RESTRICTION AND TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2023 – TEMP/23/84
The Council has made an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, the effect of which will be that for a temporary period, to facilitate resurfacing and public realm works, no person shall: (a) drive or cause or permit to be driven any vehicle described in Sch 1; (b) except with the permission of a Parking Attendant, cause or permit any vehicle to wait or load onto or unload from any vehicle on both sides of the roads described in Sch 2; & (c) drive or cause or permit to be driven any vehicle on the road described in column 1 of Sch 3 so as to make the prohibited turn specified in column 2 of Sch 3, into the road specified in column 3 of Sch 3. The Order shall have effect from 15/5/23 to 24/11/23.
SCHEDULE 1 ROAD CLOSURES: (i) Montrose Ter, at its jnct with London Rd; (ii) Abbey St, in its entirety; (iii) Maryfield, at its jnct with London Rd; (iv) Alva Pl, at its jnct with London Rd; (v) Abbey Lane, in its entirety; (vi) Lower London Rd: (1) at its jnct with London Rd; & (2) at its jnct with Abbey Lane; (vii) Cambusnethan St, at its jnct with London Rd; (viii) Wishaw Ter, at its jnct with London Rd; & (ix) Clockmill Lane, at its jnct with London Rd.
SCHEDULE 2 PROHIBITION OF WAITING, LOADING & UNLOADING: (i) London Rd, from Easter Rd to Meadowbank Ter; (ii) Montrose Ter, from its jnct with London Rd, south-westwards for 90m; (iii) Abbey St, from its jnct with London Rd, southwards for 50m; (iv) Maryfield, from its jnct with London Rd, northwards for 20m; (v) Alva Pl, from its jnct with London Rd, northwards for 20m; (vi) Abbey Lane, from its jnct with London Rd, southwards for 50m; (vii) Lower London Rd: (1) from its jnct with Abbey Lane, eastwards for 50m; & (2) from its jnct with London Rd, westwards for 50m; (viii) Marionville Rd, from its jnct with London Rd and the roundabout at Moray Park Ter; (ix) Cambusnethen St, from its jnct with London Rd, northwards for 30m; & (x) Wishaw Ter, from its jnct with London Rd, northwards for 40m.

The alternative route for vehicular traffic with respect to the prohibited left turn is via Abbey Mount, Easter Rd & London Rd. The alternative routes for vehicular traffic with respect to the road closures are via: (i) Montrose Ter – Easter Rd & London Rd; (iii) Maryfield – London Rd, Easter Rd & Rossie Pl; (iv) Alva Pl – London Rd, Easter Rd & Rossie Pl; (v) Abbey Lane – Spring Gdns, Royal Park Ter, Meadowbank Ter & London Rd; (vi) Lower London Rd: (1) London Rd & Abbey Lane; & (2) Abbey Lane, Spring Gdns, Royal Park Ter, Meadowbank Ter & London Rd; (vii) Cambusnethan St – London Rd, Marionville Rd & Wishaw Ter; (viii) Wishaw Ter – London Rd, Marionville Rd & Cambusnethan St; & (ix) Clockmill Lane – London Rd, Meadowbank Ter & Royal Park Ter. The following road has no available diversion, where access will be maintained: (ii) Abbey St. The following restrictions will be suspended: one-way on Cambusnethan St, Alva Pl & Wishaw Ter to facilitate two-way access during the closures. Existing restrictions may be suspended on the affected sections of roads described in Sch 2.
