What is happening?
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), made an order on the 4th day of May 2023 in respect of the locations numbered (1), (2), (3), (4), (5), (6) & (7). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (8), (9), (10), (11), (12), (13), (14), (15), (16), (17) & (18).
(1) LEEMAN ROAD, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of road on Leeman Road, York (a) between its junctions with Station Rise and Station Avenue and (b) between points 130 metres east and 35 metres west of Marble Arch Bridge (closed roads) during the period when there are deliveries / removals of large machinery to a nearby development site, commencing at 2115hrs on Sunday, 07 May 2023 and ending at 0600hrs on Thursday, 07 November 2024 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the Leeman Road adjacent to Memorial Gardens will be closed between 2115hrs and 0600hrs overnight every Sunday and Tuesday night for the works period only. Marble Arch tunnel will be closed overnight on Sunday and Tuesday nights after the last bus in the evening until 0600hrs for the works period only. Some further ad-hoc overnight closures will be advertised on road signs at least 10 days before. An alternative route for diverted pedestrians & vehicles will be signed during the works period.
(2) GARDEN STREET, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Garden street, York between its junction with Abbott Street and a location 18 metres south-east of said junction (closed road) during the period when sewer maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1130hrs on Friday, 12 May 2023 and ending at 1530hrs on Friday, 12 May 2023 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely.
(3) A1237 / A19 SHIPTON ROAD, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on A19 Shipton Road and Car Park Rawcliffe Bar And Sewage Works From A1237/A19 Roundabout (Northern Entrance to Rawcliffe Bar Park & Ride), York (i) on Shipton Road between its roundabout controlled junction with A1237 (York Ring Road) and the junction with Manor Lane and (ii) on Car Park Rawcliffe Bar And Sewage Works From A1237/A19 Roundabout between the roundabout controlled junction with A1237 (York Ring Road and a location 50 metres south of said junction (closed roads) during the period when roadway resurfacing works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2100hrs on Tuesday, 09 May 2023 and ending at 0600hrs on Saturday, 13 May 2023 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Additionally, vehicles will be restricted to a 30 miles per hour (mph) speed limit in those lengths of road (a) on the A19 Shipton Road, 170 metres north-west and south-east of the roundabout controlled junction with the A1237, and (b) on the A1237 (York Ring Road) 350 metres north-east and south-west of the roundabout controlled junction with the A19 (restricted roads). It is envisaged that the roads will only be closed between 2100hrs and 0600hrs each night. An alternative route for diverted pedestrians and vehicles will be signed during the works period.
(4) MALTON ROAD, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of footway & cycleway on Malton Road, York (i) on both sides of Malton Road 45 metres either side of the junction with New Lane and (ii) on the south-western side of New Lane between the junction with Malton Road and a location 20 metres north-west of said junction (closed footway & cycleway) during the period when traffic signal refurbishment works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Tuesday, 09 May 2023 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 09 June 2023 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Additionally, vehicles will be restricted to a 30 miles per hour (mph) speed limit in that length of road on Malton Road, between points 120 metres either side of the junction with New Lane (restricted road). An alternative route for diverted pedestrians and vehicles will be signed during the works period.
(5) LAMPLUGH CRESCENT, BISHOPTHORPE
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Lamplugh Crescent, Bishopthorpe between its junction with Keble Park North and a location 66 metres north of said junction (closed road) during the period when carriageway resurfacing works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Wednesday, 10 May 2023 and ending at 1700hrs on Wednesday, 10 May 2023 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period.
(6) ALCUIN AVENUE, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Alcuin Avenue, York between its junction with Melrosegate Street and a location 91 metres east of said junction (closed road) during the period when sewer maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2130hrs on Thursday, 11 May 2023 and ending at 2330hrs on Thursday, 11 May 2023 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period.
(7) A19 SHIPTON ROAD, SHIPTON
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of central reservation traffic lane on Shipton Road (A19), Shipton between the projected south-eastern boundary of property No. 6 Burtree Avenue and a location 70 metres south-east of said projected boundary (closed traffic lane) during the period when resurfacing works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Thursday, 11 May 2023 and ending at 1630hrs on Friday, 12 May 2023 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Additionally, vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding and waiting in that length of road at the entrance to Ousebank Drive between its junction with A19 Shipton Road and a location 10 metres south-west of said junction (closed road).
(8) PICCADILLY, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Piccadilly, York between its junctions with Coppergate and Merchantgate (closed road) during the period when crane works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2330hrs on Saturday, 13 May 2023 and ending at 0900hrs on Sunday, 14 May 2023 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period.
(9) GEORGE STREET, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on George Street, York between the projected south-western boundaries of property No's 8 & 17 (closed road) during the period when carriageway repair works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0900hrs on Sunday, 14 May 2023 and ending at 0600hrs on Monday, 15 May 2023 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period.
(10) GROSVENOR ROAD, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Grosvenor Road, York between its junction with St Olave's Road and Bootham Crescent (closed road) during the period when sewer installation works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0730hrs on Monday, 15 May 2023 and ending at 1700hrs on Saturday, 20 May 2023 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted pedestrians and vehicles will be signed during the works period.
(11) HESSAY LEVEL CROSSING, HESSAY
This Order will prohibit vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Hessay Level Crossing on New Road, Hessay (closed road) during the period when railway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2310hrs on Tuesday, 16 May 2023 and ending at 0600hrs on Wednesday, 17 May 2023 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period.
(12) THE SQUARE, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on The Square, York on the eastern side of The Square between the projected northern boundaries of property No's 14 & 19 (closed road) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 15 May 2023 and ending at 1800hrs on Wednesday, 17 May 2023 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period.
(13) TRINITY LANE, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Trinity Lane, York between its junction with Micklegate and a location 25 metres south-east of said junction (closed road) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 15 May 2023 and ending at 2359hrs on Thursday, 18 May 2023 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period.
(14) MURTON LANE, MURTON
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Murton Lane, Murton between its junctions with Murton Way and Blue Coat (closed road) during the period when drainage repair works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 15 May 2023 and ending at 2359hrs on Friday, 19 May 2023 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between Monday 15th May 2023 and 19th May 2023 only. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period. Additionally, all stopping, waiting, parking and loading will be suspended (i) on Murton Lane between the junctions with Smary Lane and Murton Way and (ii) on Moor Lane between the junction with Murton Way and a location 143 metres north of said junction and (iii) on Murton Way between the junction with Murton Lane and a location 33 metres southwest of said junction and (iv) on Murton Garth from the junction with Murton Way and a location 33 metres north of said junction and (v) on Murton Way between a point 37 metres west of the junction with Murton Gath and a point 22 metres east of said junction (restricted roads). Offending vehicles may be towed away.
(15) KNAVESMIRE, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding in (a) Green Lane Footpath No. 46/26 and (b) York Footpath No. 46/30 (closed footpaths) to the extent that the said footpaths extend across the width of the Knavesmire Racecourse except that this prohibition will not apply to a pedestrian or vehicle proceeding other than during a period when a horse race is in progress. This is to ensure the safety of users. The Order will come into effect on Wednesday, 17 May 2023 and end on Saturday, 14 October 2023.
(16) BRINKWORTH TERRACE & ELVINGTON TERRACE, YORK
This Order will prohibit pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of footway on Brinkworth Terrace & Elvington Terrace, York (i) on the northern side of Brinkworth Terrace between the junction with James Street and a location 54 metres west of said junction and (ii) on the southern side of Elvington Terrace between the junction with James Street and a location 42 metres west of said junction (closed footways) during the period when building development works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0700hrs on Wednesday, 17 May 2023 and ending at 2359hrs on Thursday, 07 March 2024 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Additionally, all on-street parking on the southern side of Brinkworth Terrace between the junction with James Street and a location 54 metres west of said junction will be suspended for the works period. An alternative route for diverted pedestrians will be signed during the works period.
(17) LINK AVENUE, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Link Avenue, York between its junction with Lucas Avenue and a location 30 metres west of said junction (closed road) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Friday, 19 May 2023 and ending at 1800hrs on Friday, 19 May 2023 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period.
(18) YORK ROAD LEVEL CROSSING, STRENSALL
This Order will prohibit vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding through that length of road at York Road Level Crossing, Strensall (closed road) during the period when railway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2335hrs on Saturday, 13 May 2023 and ending at 0825hrs on Sunday, 14 May 2023 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period.
The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/ barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
