What is happening?

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14(1) AND 14(7)

FRANCIS STREET AND
MABEL STREET ROTHERHAM
(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF THROUGH TRAFFIC TEMPORARY
PROHIBITION OF TURNING MANOUEVRES AND TEMPORARY
SUSPENSION OF ONE – WAY ORDERS)
NOTICE is hereby given that Rotherham Borough has made an Order the effect of
which is to:-
1. Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the seven parts of road specified in
the Schedule to this notice for periods of time between Monday 20th March
and Friday 15th December 2023.
2. To prohibit any vehicle proceeding along Bernard Street and Broom Valley
Road from turning north into A6178 Wellgate at their junctions with the A6178
Wellgate for periods of time between Monday 20th March and Friday
15th December 2023.
3. To prohibit any vehicle proceeding along Clifton Terrace, Aldred Street, Francis
Street and Mabel Street from turning south into A6178 Wellgate at their
junctions with the A6178 Wellgate for periods of time between Monday
20th March and Friday 15th December 2023.
4. Temporarily suspend part of the Rotherham Borough Council (Various Roads,
Rotherham) (Town Centre movement Restrictions, consolidation Order)
Order 2014 to allow two way traffic along Gerard Road for periods of time
between Monday 20th March and Friday 15th December 2023.
Schedule
(i) To prohibit all vehicles from travelling along A6178 Wellgate in any direction
other than a southerly direction from the southern kerb line of Hollowgate to
its junction with A6021 Clifton Lane roundabout (the alternative route will be;
for eastbound traffic via A6021 Clifton Lane, A6021 Wharncliffe Street and
A6021 Drummond Street; for westbound traffic via A630 Centenary Way
(westbound) to Ickles Roundabout; for town centre traffic via A630 Centenary
Way (eastbound), A633 St Anns Roundabout, St Anns Road (westbound),
Doncaster Road, and Doncaster Gate.
(ii) Clifton Terrace at its junction with A6178 Wellgate (there is no alternative
route, the road is a cul de sac).
(iii) Bernard Street at its junction with A6178 Wellgate (the alternative route will
be via local neighbouring streets).
(iv) Gerard Road at its junction with A6178 Wellgate (the alternative route will be
via Lillian Street).
(v) Broom Valley Road at its junction with A6178 Wellgate (the alternative route
will be via local neighbouring streets).
(vi) Francis Street at its junction with A6178 Wellgate (there is no alternative route,
the road is a cul de sac).
(vii) Mabel Street at its junction with A6178 Wellgate (there is no alternative route,
the road is a cul de sac).
The reason for the prohibition is because works are being or are proposed to be
executed on or near the roads (Major highway works).
