ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984

THE A23 GLA ROAD PURLEY WAY, LONDON BOROUGH OF CROYDON TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC AND STOPPING ORDER 2023

1. Transport for London in consultation with the London Borough of Croydon hereby gives notice that it has made the above named Traffic Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 for the purpose specified in paragraph 2. The effect of the Order is summarised in paragraph 3.

2. The purpose of the Order is to enable highway improvement, barrier repairs and resurfacing works to take place on the A23 Purley Way.

3. The effect of the Order will be to prohibit any vehicle from:

(1) entering or proceeding in a northerly direction on Purley Way between its junctions with Stafford Road and Croydon Road, local access will be maintained between Stafford Road and Fiveways;

(2) entering or proceeding in a southerly direction on Purley Way between its junctions with Croydon Road and Fiveways;

(3) entering or proceeding in a southerly direction on Epsom Road between its junctions with Duppas Hill Road and Purley Way, access will be maintained between Duppas Hill Road and Waddon Train Station;

(4) entering or proceeding on Waddon Park Avenue between its junctions with Alton Road and Purley Way, access will be maintained between Alton Road and No.127 Waddon Park Avenue;

(5) stopping on Waddon Park Road between its junction with Puley Way and Nos.123 and 125 Waddon Park Avenue;

(6) entering or exiting Old Waddon Goods Yard, Purley Way at its junction with the A23 Purley Way;

The Order will also:

(7) allow two-way operation on Epsom Road between its junction with Duppas Hill Road and Waddon Train Station.

Works will be phased such that some restrictions will apply only at certain times.

The Order will be effective at certain times between 5th March 2023 and 5th September 2023, every night 9:00 PM until 5:00 AM or when the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. The prohibitions will apply only during such times and to such extent as shall from time to time be indicated by traffic signs.

4. The prohibitions will not apply in respect of:

(1) any vehicle being used for the purposes of those works or for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes;

(2) anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or a person authorised by Transport for London.

5. At such times as the prohibitions are in force alternative routes will be indicated by traffic signs. For Purley Way southbound closure via Croydon Road, Plough Lane and Stafford Road to normal route of travel or via Purley Way northbound, Mitcham Road, Roman Way, Old Town, Davenant Road, Duppas Hill Road and Epsom Road to normal route of travel. For Purley Way northbound closure via Stafford Road, Duppas Hill Road, Duppas Hill Lane, Old Town, Roman Way and Mitcham Road to normal route of travel or via Stafford Road, Plough Lane and Croydon Road to normal route of travel.
