What is happening?

HARTLEPOOL BOROUGH COUNCIL
Section 116 and Schedule 12 of the Highways Act 1980
Notice of intention to apply to stop up the highway at Reed Street, Hartlepool.
NOTICE is given that Hartlepool Borough Council as Highway Authority intends to apply to Middlesbrough Magistrates Court sitting at Teesside Magistrates' Court, The Law Courts, Victoria Square, Middlesbrough TS1 2AS on the morning of the 31st January 2023 for an Order under section 116 of the Highways Act 1980 authorising the stopping up of an area of the highway at Reed Street, Hartlepool being 12 metres in length with a width of 0.5 metres and shown as a blue line on the attached plan (No. STU 6) on the grounds that the highway is unnecessary. The effect of the Order will be to extinguish all public rights of way over that area of land.
A copy of the plan may be inspected free of charge at the Civic Centre, Victoria Road, Hartlepool, TS24 8AY between the hours of 08:30 – 16:30 Monday to Fridays (excluding public holidays) from 29th December 2022. An electronic version is available from chris.walker@hartlepool.gov.uk.
Any person to whom this Notice has been given or who uses the highway specified or who would be aggrieved by the making of the Order may appear before the Magistrates’ Court to raise an objection or make a representation on the application. Any person intending to appear before the Magistrates' Court at the hearing of the application is requested to inform Chris Walker at the above address before the 27th January 2023 quoting reference CW/UN17386.
