(CLOSURE OF FOOTPATHS IN CITY CENTRE AREA, SUNDERLAND PN642) AND (CLOSURE OF CARRIAGEWAYS IN CITY CENTRE AREA, SUNDERLAND PN642)
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDERS 2022
Sunderland City Council gives notice that on 16th December 2022 two Orders were made under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit pedestrians along the footpaths in Schedule 1 and all traffic along the carriageways in Schedule 2. The Orders are required to enable excavation for new fibre works to take place in or near the footpaths and carriageways. The Orders will come into operation on 5th January 2023. The maximum duration of the closure under the Orders will be 6 months for the footpaths in Schedule 1 and 18 months for the carriageways in Schedule 2, however it is estimated that when each closure takes place it will only be for a duration of between 1 to 7 days. All pedestrians will be prohibited from the footpaths (except personnel involved in the works) and all traffic along the carriageways (except vehicles and personnel involved in the works) until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. An exemption for emergency services on emergency call will be provided and access for affected residents will be maintained. Alternative routes will be provided via the adjacent highway network.
Schedule 1 – Footpaths to be closed for their entire length
Borough Road, Villiers Street, West Wear Street, Coronation Street, Little Villiers Street, Dannats Court, Norfolk Street, West Sunniside, High Street West, East Cross Street.
Schedule 2 – Carriageways to be closed for their entire length
Borough Road, Villiers Street, Nile Street East Back, Coronation Street, Little Villiers Street, Dannats Court, Norfolk Street, West Sunniside, High Street West, East Cross Street, West Wear Street.

Ripon Street, Ripon Street East Back, Stansfield Street, Forster Street East Back, Roker Avenue North Back, Roker Avenue, Zetland Street, Whickham Street East, Roker Avenue South Back, Whickham Street East South Back, Zetland Square, Dock Street, Carlcroft, Akeld Mews, Brandling Street South, Harelaw Drive, Kelpie Gardens, Langeeford Place.
