NOTICE OF PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO THE CHARITY'S PURPOSES

Notice is hereby given that Grace Baptist Trust Corporation, as sole corporate trustee of Zion Chapel, Calne, is proposing to amend the charitable purposes of the charity pursuant to section 280A of the Charities Act 2011.

The charity owns the former Zion Chapel premises at 16 Phelps Parade, Calne. The Chapel has not been used for public worship for a number of years and there is no longer an active congregation.

The proposed amendment would replace the existing purposes relating to the use of the Chapel for religious worship with wider charitable purposes which would permit the disposal of the property and the application of the charity’s assets for charitable purposes consistent with the proposed new objects.

The proposed amendment to the Objects are set out below:-

APPENDIX 1

1. EXISTING PURPOSE

The existing purpose in the Trust Deed is:-

“UPON TRUST that the trustees (...) shall permit a Chapel (...) to be built on the said piece or parcel of land and to be used occupied and enjoyed as and for a place of public religious worship for the service of GOD by the society of Protestant Dissenters of the Denomination called Particular Baptists”

2. NEW PURPOSE

The existing purpose is to be deleted and replaced with the following:-

“UPON TRUST for the advancement of the Christian faith, in particular among the Protestant Dissenters of the denomination called Particular Baptists.”

Any person wishing to comment on the proposal should submit their comments in writing to the contact details above. Comments must be received no later than 15/11/2026.
