What is happening?
REVERTER OF SITES ACT – EXTINGUISHMENT OF RIGHTS
The Former Christ Church - Church Of England Primary School, Batten Street, Battersea, London, SW11 2TH
Whereas:-
1. By a Conveyance dated 23 October 1865 between (1) William Evill the younger and (2) the Minister and Chapel Wardens of the District Chapelry of Christchurch Battersea ("the Vicar and Churchwardens") the site (and buildings) of what became known as the Christ Church - Church of England Primary School Battersea ("the School") was granted to the Vicar and Churchwardens as trustee pursuant to section 2 of the Schools Sites Act 1841. The trusteeship of the school was transferred to the Southwark Diocesan Board of Education (Incorporated) on 28 October 2024.
2. The said school premises ceased to be used for the purposes of a voluntary school in August 2024 and pursuant to section 1 of the Reverter of Sites Act 1987 a trust for sale has arisen in respect of the said premises.
Now take notice:-
1. The Southwark Diocesan Board of Education (Incorporated) has made an application to the Secretary of State for Education for the inclusion of the above-named school in an Order under section 554 of the Education Act 1996; the purpose of the Order is to allow the assets of the foundation to be used for the benefit of new and continuing schools of the same denomination within the diocese. The same Order will extinguish the rights of any beneficiary under the trust for sale.
2. Any beneficiary who wishes to oppose the extinguishment of his rights should notify his claim in writing to: Winckworth Sherwood LLP (Solicitors), Arbor, 255 Blackfriars Road, London, SE1 9AX, no later than 8th January 2027.
