Public Consultation Introduction

Trafford Council is reviewing its Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Policy. This policy sets out the standards, requirements and expectations for licensed drivers, vehicles and operators, helping to ensure that licensed transport services in Trafford are safe, professional and meet the needs of residents and visitors.

Background

The Council has a responsibility to license and regulate hackney carriage and private hire vehicles, drivers and operators to protect public safety and maintain confidence in licensed transport services. The policy provides a framework for decision-making and outlines the standards expected of licence holders. It reflects current legislation, guidance and best practice within the taxi and private hire industry.

Why are we consulting?

We have prepared a draft Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Policy for 2026-2029 and would like to hear the views of residents, passengers, licence holders, businesses and other interested parties before the policy is finalised. Feedback received during this consultation will help inform the final policy.
