FIXING OF FARES FOR HACKNEY CARRIAGES

In accordance with Section 65 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976 Rochford District Council hereby give notice of variation of the maximum fares and charges in respect of Hackney Carriages to come into effect from 1 November 2026. The revision to the ‘table of fares’ is as follows: -

Fares are calculated on a combination of distance or time or parts thereof

TARIFF 1 – Day rate

Monday to Saturday between the hours 06:00 and 21:00

For the first 440 yards (402.33m) or 120 seconds — £4.50

For each subsequent 170 yards (155.45m) or 36 seconds until £9.80 is reached — 20p

For each subsequent 134 yards (122.53m) or 28 seconds after £9.80 is reached — 20p

TARIFF 2 – Early Morning, Late Evening, Sunday & Bank Holiday rate

Monday to Saturday between the hours 21:00 to 00:00 and 04:00 to 06:00 Monday to Friday

Sunday and Bank Holidays between 06:00 and 00:00

For the first 440 yards (402.33m) or 120 seconds — £5.50

For each subsequent 170 yards (155.45m) or 36 seconds until £10.80 is reached — 20p

For each subsequent 134 yards (122.53m) or 28 seconds after £10.80 is reached — 20p

TARIFF 3 – Late Night Rate

Monday to Friday between the hours 00:00 and 04:00

Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays between 00:00 and 06:00

For the first 440 yards (402.33m) or 120 seconds — £6.50

For each subsequent 170 yards (155.45m) or 24 seconds until £11.80 is reached — 20p

For each subsequent 134 yards (122.53m) or 24 seconds after £11.80 is reached — 20p

TARIFF 4 – Christmas and New Year rate

Between 00:00 hours on 25 December and 06:00 hours on 26 December

Between 00:00 hours on 1 January and 06:00 hours on 1st January

For the first 440 yards (402.33m) or 120 seconds — £10.50

For each subsequent 170 yards (155.45m) or 36 seconds until £21.60 is reached — 40p

For each subsequent 134 yards (122.53m) or 28 seconds after £21.60 is reached — 40p

TARIFF 5 – Boxing Day rate

Between 06:00 hours on 26 December and 06:00 hours on 27 December

For the first 440 yards (402.33m) or 120 seconds — £6.50

For each subsequent 170 yards (155.45m) or 36 seconds until £12.00 is reached — 30p

For each subsequent 134 yards (122.53m) or 28 seconds after £12.00 is reached — 30p

EXTRA CHARGES

For each person in excess of one — additional 50p

For all items carried in the luggage compartment.

(No charge for wheelchairs or disability aids). — max additional 50p

For animals carried – maximum charge

(except assistance dogs). — additional £1

Despoilment charge (A charge for restoration should a passenger soil or damage the vehicle) — additional £100

London Congestion Charge and Dartford Crossing - as applied

A copy of this notice will be open to public inspection without payment at the at our reception located at Rochford Library, 8 Roche Close, Rochford, Essex, SS4 1PX during normal office hours for a period of twenty one days from the date of publication of this notice. Any person wishing to object to the variation to the proposed variation to the table of fares should do so in writing, giving full grounds for the objection. All objections must be received by the Licensing Manager, either through licensing@rochford.gov.uk or writing to The Licensing Manager, Rochford District Council, Civic Suite, 2 Hockley Road, Rayleigh, Essex, SS6 8EB which must be received by midnight 4th October 2026
