What is happening?

Notice of proposal to modify definitive map order Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981
Notice is hereby given pursuant to paragraph 8(2) of Schedule 15 to the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 that the Inspector appointed by the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to determine the City of York Council COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YORK – OPPOSED PUBLIC FOOTPATHS WESTPIT STRENSALL MODIFICATION ORDER 2022 proposes to modify the Order by providing for:
• Delete the Footpaths recorded in Schedule 4, Schedule 5, Schedule 6, Schedule 8, Schedule 11, and Schedule 12
• Delete the Footpaths shown on Map 4, Map 5, Map 6, Map 8, Map 11, and Map 12
In Schedule 7, Part 1 and 2
• In relation to widths delete every ‘3’ and replace with ‘2’
In Schedule 9, Part 1 and 2
• In relation to widths delete every ‘3’ and replace with ‘2’
• Delete all references to ‘earth’ and replace with ‘crushed stone’.
• After both ‘then continues’ add ‘on a 2 metre wide earth surface’
• In Nature of Surface column delete ‘SE 6256 6005’ and replace with ‘SE 6262 6007’ and add ‘Earth (SE 6262 6005 to SE 6256 6005)’
In Schedule 10, Part 1 and 2
• Delete all references to ‘grass’ and replace with ‘crushed stone’
Schedule 14, Part 1 and 2
• Before both ‘metre wide grass surface’ delete ‘4.0’ and replace with ‘1.5’
• In Width column delete ‘SE 6268 5985’ and replace with ‘SE 6271 5985’ and add ‘1.5m (SE 6271 5985 to SE 6268 5985)’


A copy of the Order as submitted and a copy of the Order showing the proposed modification together with the Inspector’s Order decision dated 20 July 2026 have been deposited at City of York Council, West Offices, Station Rise, York YO1 6GA and may be inspected free of charge during normal working hours. Any representation or objection with respect to the proposed modification may be sent to Joanne Reid by email: rightsofway2@planninginspectorate.gov.uk quoting reference number ROW/3362930M1 on all correspondence between 10 September 2026 and 8 October 2026, this may be sent in writing to The Planning Inspectorate, Rights of Way Section, c/o QUADIENT, 69 Buckingham Avenue, Slough, SL1 4PN.

It should be noted that any such representation or objection may be made available for viewing by interested parties at the council offices on request.
