Proposal to relocate and expand the Beormund Special School.

Southwark Council publishes these proposals under section 19(1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 and having regard to the DfE guidance ‘Making significant changes (‘prescribed alterations’) to maintained schools - Statutory guidance for proposers and decision makers August 2025. 

The proposal in this notice is to relocate and expand the Beormund Special School to a new site in the Peckham area of the London Borough of Southwark from January 2027. 

These proposals would see: 

• The relocation of the Beormund Special School to a new purpose-built site in the Peckham area.

• The expansion of the Beormund Special School through the creation of 21 new places.

•More local specialist places meaning more parental choice.

The proposals to relocate and expand Beormund Special School was published on 3rd September 2026.  

Within four weeks from the date of publication of this proposal, any person may object to or make comments on the proposal by visiting https://engage.southwark.gov.uk/en-GB/projects/beormund
special-school or by writing to: Education Capital Team, Hub 1, 4th Floor, Southwark Council, 160 Tooley Street, SE1 2TZ. 

The closing date for receipt of responses to the representation period is 1st October 2026 at 5pm.  The Council’s Executive will meet after the end of the representation period, in October 2026, to take the final decision on the proposal in this notice.
