What is happening?

The Isle of Wight Council's Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders Notice is hereby given that the Isle of Wight Council in not less than seven days from the appearance of this Notice, under Section 14 (1) (a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, proposes to make the following Orders: The Isle of Wight Council (Various Streets, East Cowes) Isle of Wight) (Temporary 10 mph Speed Restriction & 30 mph Speed Restriction) Order No 1 2026

Island Roads on behalf of The Isle of Wight Council give notice that for one night shift between 2000 hours on Friday 21 August 2026 until 0400 hours on Saturday 22 August 2026, or when the works has been completed, no person shall cause any vehicle to exceed 10 mph Speed Restriction along A) Whippingham Road, East Cowes, for its entire length. On-street signage will depict the exact length of the restriction and Temporary 30 mph Speed Restriction along A) Whippingham Road, East Cowes, for its entire length B) Racecourse for its entire length, C) Lushington hill, for its entire length. On-street signage will depict the exact length of the restrictions. The restrictions are required to maintain a safe working area.

No speed limit imposed by this Order applies to vehicles falling within Regulation 3 (4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011 when used when used in accordance with Regulation 3b (5) of those Regulations. "Special Forces" has the same meaning as defined in the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011.

The provisions of this Order are in the interests of road and pedestrian safety to maintain a safe working area and shall apply only at such times and to such extent as shall be indicated by the placing of the appropriate traffic signs prescribed by the current edition of the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions.
