obstruct or impede the flow of an inland water using impounding works
The Tweed Forum has applied to the Environment Agency for 2 licences.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application, in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a licence to abstract (take) water from a tributary of the River Breamish at Hedgeley Estate, Powburn, Northumbria between National Grid References (NGRs): NU 06335 17791 and NU 06347 17866 to transfer it to the same tributary at National Grid Reference: NU 06406 18013 without intervening use.
The application is to abstract water as follows:
• 2,016 cubic metres an hour • 48,384 cubic metres a day • 1,741,824 cubic metres a year • between 01 November and 31 March inclusive in each year.
Abstraction will take place by infilling a length of the existing channel and lowering an existing embankment alongside that length of infilled channel.
The Tweed Forum has also applied for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of tributaries of the River Breamish at Hedgeley Estate, Powburn, Northumbria at NGRs: NU 06477
17769, NU 06355 17885, NU 07299 18125 and NU 07748 19347 by means of channel infill sections. Each section will be infilled to a height of 200 millimetres above the floodplain level but each to a different length, the longest section being approximately 73 metres. Water will be impounded to cause water to flow on to the surrounding floodplain. These works are part of a nature conservation scheme.
